BLI 2-8-2 Light
Posted by NZRMac on Thursday, May 19, 2005 3:36 AM
Hi guys, it's been awhile!! We moved house and I had to pack everything up and dismantle the layout, 4 big pieces to bolt together again.

Anyway I returned my 2-8-2 to Tonys Train Ex they repaired and returned to me, but it's still no good, jerky in reverse.
Tony is going to give me a credit and I'll get something else. I've posted the loco back and will wait and see what's avaliable.

Good to see you back Ken

That's too bad as I have the BLI Heavy Mike and yes it's noisier when going in reverse but it is still a good runner. In fact though the Mike Class is not one of my favourites, this one is one of my cherished Locos. Hopefully you can get something that will work out.

I'm DC but got hooked on BLI sound with the GG1 with the use of the sidekicker.
I wanted to sell my P2K Berks and expand into limited BLI sound steamers but
to date there's a few negative comments about BLI.

Their disorganization due to"adjustment in ownership & relocation".
The lack of scale fidelity and criticism on the AC6000CW.
Their inability to answer my third e-mail pertaining to their Quantum Engineer.
Derailment and siderod problems with the AT&SF Class 4-8-4.
And now, the 2-8-2.
Failure to receive customer satisfaction.
Well Charlie, you're ahead of the game. Keep the silent Berks and pass on BLI.

I'll chime in with a minor gripe against BLI. I have a 2-8-2 heavy that I had for less than a month and it stopped working. I called them a week ago to see about getting it repaired and they said they would send out a prepaid shipping label... Been over a week and nothing yet, but they are in FL and I am in Ohio, so I will give them until Monday and then call back. They were real nice and apologetic on the phone when I called to report my problems... So now I'm just wondering if things got mixed up down there or maybe delayed in the mail. Not real upset about it yet, trying to learn some patience in my old age...

If it is any help at all, I sent them an e-mail about my Hudson needing work, and they asked me to send it in. I had broken one of the tender pick-up tines.
I sent in to them, and got it back exactly three weeks later..all the way to Vancouver Island! It must have been in their lab about five days.

Also, my Hudson has always been noisy in reverse. Their non-technical answer is that the Korean mechanisms are inherently noisy. They are trying to get improvements.

This little baby of mine was not only noisey in reverse if you were a passenger on board you would have severe whip-lash. I watched as I ran her in reverse with the boiler off, the flywheel/motor shaft moves in and out of the gearbox (worm drive) at the very moment of the jerk action; i.e to much end play. Shim washers may have done the trick but I really didn't want to.
I hope to replace with a Proto 2000 2-8-8-2 with QSI.
