Here is the photo of the LL QSI Y3 that I decaled using Champs WM and gave it #917

The crew is from woodland scenics that I placed about the engine as a sort of a welcoming committee, I apologize for lack of scenery as the shelf is still a "Holding area" for buildings until a pernament home can be found for them.

I did not paint any part of the engine, the caboose was a Atlas NE-C which also carries a WM herald. This is the sort of a dedicated caboose for this engine as they run well together.

Yes, that what it is, a undec Y3.

WOW!! It looks great. I am planning to do the same with my LL 2-8-8-2. Have you lettered any other locos for western maryland.

No no other engines.. I got these champs set a year ago and am thinking seriously of getting some more if they still have them.

I ran the 2-8-8-2 today on a friends layout. I had assigned 24 walthers ore cars and a Atlas NE-C caboose you see in the photo to it. It picked switches until we fixed the switches. The pilot wheels constantly came off because it is just too light to stay "Put" on the rail sometimes to my amazement the engine will obediantly follow the pilots off the track. (At switches)

Now for the good.. It handled the 25 cars hooked to it on the level without any issues. Some curves are down to 22" and learned that the rear tender truck would sorta lean off the track due to tension on the train. The tender appears just heavy enough (Weight) to stay on the track.

On the layout about 10 feet along one side is a straight set of tracks on a 3% grade. On each end is 24" radius curves (Code 83) coming out of the yard into the "First" 90 degree curve the engine noticeably "Leaned" into the pull as the chuff became more labored. At 35 mph on the DCC it made the grade and fought the increasing grade effect on the top of the next corner where that 90 degree 24" curve with a increasing grade waited.

Note that the 24 walthers ore cars are of the Taconite set #2 DMIRR equipped with Hay Brothers Ore Loads and Steel wheels from LL P2K (33" flat back) they for the most part behaved very well.

The engine did a good job today, I have to spend some time editing video and lifting pictures for the photobucket and they will be added when ready.

As I consider how to weight or place pressure onto the front pilot (The rear pilot was ok but it sometimes comes out) and how to build switches stout enough to take the engine without derailing. This engine pulls well for me on that 3%er but wont take much more than what I put on it today.

I theoratically could have a second Y3 as a helper and add 12 more ore cars for a total of 36 cars. That probably will be a worthy train in anyone's book with the ability to start and stop on those grades.

LL did a good job with this model.
