Would Not Belive What Happened

Hi Guys ,,This morning i was at my L.H.S and i was looking at at a few locos there,,a guy came in ,looking also,,he bought 16 locos adding up to 1.100 bucks,we chatted,a bit ,about mrr, then i was done ,,i went up the check out ,,lol the shop owner,did not ,much pay attenction to ,as he was so enthused,with this sale,,, but at the time of adding everything up,,,,the guy told the owner to put my stuff on his bill ,,,(no joke),,i said no 3 times ,he insisted,told my i waited to log for his ,stuff ,so he bought my C44-9w eninge and my seenery stuff ,,

glad to see theres some real nice peaple out there

Wow!! Some deal and what a guy!! We need more modellers like this guy.
Hopefully he paid the LHS with cash not a check. Wouldn't THAT be something if the HS ended up getting stiffed by a bad check or bogus credit card. You should have walked over to the 'brass' display and told the HS owner you wanted one of THOSE........

WOW. That's one of those Random Acts of Kindness I've heard about but seldom seen. Really makes your day when something like that happens! The world would be a much nicer place to live in if more people did such things.

Very much along those same lines...Please follow along, this true story.

I have a floor maintenance business, it's my living. Today I was doing an annual strip at a lighting and electric place, mostly upper end light fixtures and such. This job should have taken about 1 1/2 hours. They had been doing some rearranging on this large free standing island shelf unit.

I had just mopped liberal amounts of stripper solution on the floor and was now working it with my auto scrubber machine. As I had just gone by this thing and coming around for another pass, CCCRRAAAASSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!! This 16 foot long, 5 1/2 foot high shelf unit (with LOTS of stuff on it) went over sideways. (It didn't get me) I stood there in shock. It sounded like a car wreck. One of the owners came out of her office to see what the noise was about. Being a mature professional, I could only default to "I didn't even touch it!, I was over here!" (where I was still frozen in my tracks)

What had happened was that they inadvertantly loaded this thing way off balance, and today just happened to be the final straw. It collapsed under the strain. So I helped them, (5 of them and me) pick up the hundreds of items, many broken, and put them into boxes just to get them off the wet nasty floor. They fully reassured me it was no fault of mine. By the time we got this major mess picked up and things straightened up enough for me to continue, the job turned out to be 3 1/2 hours. And I was SWEATING the whole time.

As I was finally nearing getting my stripping job done, the lady who first came out of her office handed me quite a generous bonus check for my extra trouble! I tried to refuse it, but she insisted, so I accepted. I always knew they were nice people there, but WOW. They just took a hit, and still wanted to cover my extra time and effort. That's class! I feel as fortunate and moved as Carl (ac4400fan)! I usually try to be a good sport for others but it came around today. Dan

I am amazed that some responses cannot believe that this happened, I would think anyone with vast amounts of money WOULD do something like this, it doesnt seem surprising to me for a person with unlimited funds might spread a little joy around, haven't you? I just hope he helped out a destitute mother with 2 children also, ( I'm sure he did) I gave $20.00 to young guy hitch-hiking on the highway and said " pass it on" he said 'I will, that's a promise" (he said he had 35cents and almost cried, now he could make it back home) see how simple it is? What a great story and now you can doubley enjoy your c44-9w (and that better be a steam engine ! !)

WELL, this goes to show there are some very nice people about, i have today been promised a Peterbuilt truck and trailor for my layout just for showing one of our managers a picture of my layout,

Kinda sad, isn't it, that we want first to try to see the 'angle' on such acts of kindness? Who'd be lavishing money except someone who is up to no good? Was the credit card stolen? A divorce in the making and buddy was just giving the best measure he could before the castle of cards came down? Who knows.

Yes, you'd think that those who could afford to be generous would be. And, many are! Some can only devise ways to get even more. It is funny, but I have spent idle times imagining what I'd do first if I ever won a few million $. Inevitably, my first thoughts are of how much I'd give to people I know who could really use it. Although, I hear that 'friends' you never knew come out of the woodwork when they know you have money.

Carl, you are the amazed beneficiary of someone's largess or generosity. Does it really matter which? Enjoy, friend, and do likewise when you can.

I too have been a recipient of such good fortune. I have been a member of a group for almost a year now. Since I have only just begun in enjoying the finer detailed aspects of the hobby, I have been running cheap (less expensive) equipment on the group layout, until I could afford something much nicer. At the last show that my group attended I found a gift on my module from a fellow member. Sitting on my module with a special note was a Proto 2000 Alco S3 Locomotive, decoder equiped and everything. I couldn't beleive my eyes, something must be wrong because I didn't deserve such a fine model. I will always be greatful to my wonderful friend who has expressed so much charity to me. I know that I will forever be endebted to him. Thanks, Mike!

Glad to hear about the owners of that light shop. They seem to know a thing or two about not only running a business - but how to be a human. It's funny how many don't understand the "what comes around goes around." While I'm sure they are not expecting it - I bet you enjoy working for them and would go the extra yard if they asked. I'm sure they also appreciate your willingness to help them-even if you don't need to. I've seen alot of small business owners during my time as an attorney - those that do business like your lighting company very rarely get sued or have to sue anyone else. Those that are jerks? They seem to end up helping buy my son nicer Christmas presents.
