Tri-Axle Bogies
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, May 5, 2005 8:19 PM
My current Industrial layout has max radius curves of 22" so I have a problem with many of my passenger coaches. One solution (perhaps) would be to cut , shorten & rejoin the body, but hard to do this successfully? Has anybody tried this or other solutions? Of course I could change to 4wheel bogies but the long wheelbase would defeat that solution, I feel.

Or buy 4 wheel trucks or buy shorter cars.

Yes I could buy shorter cars BUT... why scrap --in my case--more than 20 longer cars? I am looking for a solution!

You may try removing the center axle in each truck. That can help.

According to the Harry Potter books, they're boogers. Crazy Brits; what do nose goblins have to do with trains? [:D]

Seriously though, the simplest fix would be to just make the center wheelsets blind. That'll give you a lot more swing clearance and greatly reduce binding. But you shouldn't be having this problem on 22" curves; my first layout had 18", and I was able to run strings of Athearn heavyweights with three axled trucks just fine.

Translation:
British American
-----------------------
bogie = truck
sleeper = tie

I can't think of any more right now, but I'm sure there are a bunch.
