Bittersweet day in my life as model rr

Well today I started to tear up the my layout. I started to build it in mid 1996 and have been working on it all this time. It was sad to see detailed areas that took hours to build destroyed in seconds and carefully layed track ripped up.
But on the plus side the new layout will be even nicer.
Old layout : min r 22", yard capacity 45 cars, 15 industries, staging for 3 trains. main line run of about 3 scale miles
New layout: min r 30", yard capacity 100, 20+ industries, main line only 1.25 scale miles but point to point and more fun to run and staging for 8 trains.
There is no such thing as a bad day of railfanning. So many trains, so little time.

I'm in a track planning phase now, the idea I was going to have a rather short South Shore line and most other lines short, the idea now after some basic track planning on the computer, I found I could extend the mainlines drastically...wheeee!!!
good luck on your impoved plans and enjoy.

I am glad for you and feel for you at the same time. I too have had to endure the hardship of tearing down a layout. (Though this last time is only a temporary dissasembly of major sections) However I always feel a sence of invigoration whenever a clean slate presents itself. I wish you well. and happy model railroading.
James.
