Check your own neighbourhood first!!

I searched the internet stores for a Walthers Rotary Dumper and rang a few stores out of the phone book,
I had Kevin Newsome looking for me as well.

I found one on Ebay and I was the winning bidder for four days till the last few seconds, outbidded by one dollar!!

I found another, 10 minutes from here at a guy who deals out of his garage!!!

Brand new still in the wrapping $65 NZ.

I finally found the last Walthers Rotary Dumper kit in New Zealand!!

Ken.

e-bay has that evil dark side to it. Like underworld said, keep looking and mention it around here, maybe someone can help locate one for you.

Being outbid in the last minute or last few seconds is known as "Sniping".

It's part of the process. I'm guilty of sniping. But I've also been sniped too!

I don't have a problem with sniping, however, I remember a few months back several modelers posted complaints about sniping. I didn't respond, but I felt that this was borderline "whining". An auction is an auction and it's up to the buyers to monitor it. If someone has a slow speed connection (like I do).........oh well!

Most of the posters agreed that they had no problems with sniping, as long as it's done legitimately. [;)]

ONE EXCEPTION THAT EVERYONE SHOULD BE AWARE OF:[B)][:0]

Anyone know about this? I read that a while back some Ebay bidders have been using "Sniping Software", which will automatically outbid any last bids in the last 2 or 3 seconds of an auction. Now, that's crossing the line! [V][tdn] Somehow Ebay monitors discovered this and permantly banned the perpetrators. I'm not sure, but "I think" that sniping software leaves some type of "footprint" behind. Some of you Computer/Software guys can probably elaborate more on this.

It's a shame that some knuckleheads will always plan on taking something that benefits so many people, and trash it.

Peace!

I agree, eBay sniping is just part of the game - and that's how you've got to look at it, is as kind of a competition or a game. When I get sniped, I laugh, 'cuz that's life, and life ain't fair. And when I snipe somebody else, I laugh harder. But I'm glad they've taken the sniping software out of the equation - it's hard enough to compete with the cable modem guys as it is LOL!

To paraphrase the line from "Wall Street"...Never get emotional about auctions.

Although I think on Overstock's auctions, if anyone enters a bid in the last 10 minutes, it resets the clock back to a full 10 minutes, so that takes care of the sniping. I've looked around, but haven't bid on anything there.

Sniping seems to be standard on ebay these days - I've done it and lost items through it. What annoys me is the idea of software - that someone can just set their chosen bid and know that it will be placed with 2 seconds to go. However, if you wait a while another one will turn up - I was annoyed to miss a set of Athearn double stack cars until a month later when the market was flooded with them (unbuilt kits)!

Yup, I've won some things from sniping, and have lost even more to sniping. So goes the game. [:D]

I do remember one incident though . . . I had won an Earnhardt die cast car by putting my bid in about 30 seconds before the auction ended. Someone else put in a bid after me, but it wasn't higher than mine. I won. I got an email about 10 seconds later from the other bidder telling me to take the car and put it inside a place in my body. At first I was kinda shocked. But then I laughed until I cried. I figured someone like that is probably missing out alot on life and oh well. lol

Ken,

I'm glad you found your rotary dumper. Your story kinda reminds me of the Wizard of Oz. Doesn't Dorothy say something like "if i'm ever looking for something I'm going to start right here in my own back yard." In any event - you got one. Congrats!!!
If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

When I bid on Ebay, I usually bid the highest price that I want to pay for the Item, and the shipping cost. If I am outbid, it doesn't bother me, because I didn't want to pay any more. Sometimes I will relook at the Item and decide if I want to pay more, but I usually just let it go.

There is one person that snipes me all the time and he is using software. He gets me with about 5 seconds to go. I've made him pay a few times by putting in a high bid.
