I have a web article about experiments in cleaning track. Has anyone else ever tried this:

Thank you if you visit

Congratulations for adopting the scientific method, Harold. You appear to have found something that the rest of us should take a serious look at. If we duplicate the results, especially those of us who are having major headaches with power to the locos, you have (and are) a winner.

Interesting article .. thanx for posting the url ...... Surely worth looking into.

While the subject of track cleaning has been discussed many times, the problem persists. However, "things" get dirty and gritty and require cleaning. That's just the way it is. Getting to all of the problemsome track and what to use .....

As of late I've been using Centerline's track cleaning car - Model D30. Can't say I'm thrilled with it - but it does help quite a bit in my rather long tunnels ...... also have one of those extender handles (#82992) with a "Bright Bar" on the end of. This is marketed by Micro-Mark and helps in those "just out of reach" places .... Then for those "instant" cleanings "here or there," nothing beats the good old "Bright Boy"!

Perhaps one day we'll be able to electronically clean the track - why not? Not that long ago DCC wasn't a discussion topic ...... One never knows just what technology will bring.

See ya![tup]

looks like a good idea. At a recent seminar (conducted by a member of this forum, incidentally) I learned that Flitz metal polish or Mother's Mag Wheel polish is the best track cleaning stuff there is. I tried it, it works unbelievably well and STAYS that way.

I think this is a great article, and its really hits home with me, As I have the same Loco, But made by Pocher! It usually stalls right on the frogs of my code 100 switches, I wish I had an answer to that. Further more, That engine is the GREAT tester for my track and I wi***hat I could use it more. The idea you have is wonderful and should work with all loco's. I will think about it some more.

Look at the prototype rails, see where the grime is?
and where the rail is clean?
the outer top half is dirty, the inner half is clean.

MAAS metal polish works fine too. I'll never go back to anything else. My tracks stay clean for months.
