HO I-5 Baldwin
Posted by GMTRacing on Sunday, April 10, 2005 7:13 PM
I had no luck searching on the forum, but did anyone ever make a model of the Baldwin I-5 as used by the New Haven railroad? Built in 1937 according to the book and in use through the New Havens' transition period I think it looks gorgeous. Hooked to some period passenger cars it would look a treat. Did I just join the world of scratch builders or is there one out there? J.R.

Nope. No Baldwin I-5's in other than brass and costing an arm and a leg. I believe NJ Custom Brass did them many years ago and someone else much more recently. And I think MTH did them in O high-rail recently as well.

CNJ831,
Thanks, that's sort of what I expected to hear. The engine isn't vital to what I wanted to do, but if it was out there for reasonable money...... J.R.

In the May Model Railroader on page 119 is an add for a New Haven I-4 Pacific, they are taking reservations. At the bottom it says they are considering a small run of 2 different tenders if that helps with your scratch building idea.

The HO NYNH&H I-5 was produced in the 1980s by NJ Custom Brass and in the 1990s by W&R. I own a W&R I-5 and it is one beautiful model. I've seen the W&R I-5 on ebay for $1600.00!
