New Athearn GP 40-2; anyone know about their handrails?
Posted by RDG1519 on Friday, April 8, 2005 7:40 PM
Does anyone know what kind of handrails these will come with? I am very pleased with my new Reading GP 35's from Athearn, some incorrect paint but otherwise very good. If the new GP 40-2 is this good I will be satisfied.

Does any one know if the fuel tank can be shortened about a half inch on each end without weakening the frame?

Thanks!!

I think they will be plastic like the other Athearns have been.

Assuming it is from the latest production run, it will be plastic. I bought a Blue Box DRGW GP40-2 in January that came with plastic handrails.

It can be done, a milling machine makes this a practical task.
