Gary Coleman (Arnold) and Model Trains
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 2, 2005 10:28 PM
I was wondering if anyone knows what club Gary Coleman a member of in California (LA area) I was watching an episode of Star Dates and he took his date to this nice train club where he brought his own train and they ran them on this great layout. His date was a pain because she obviously did not like trains. Gary Coleman had his Engineers hat and all. I have read in The MR magazine a few months ago that he was an avid Model railroader too. I wonder if he has a home layout. In fact I wonder if he even has a home. LOL I wonder other YOUNGER stars love model trains and have home layouts too?

You'd be surprised at how many celebrities are into model railroading. Though he's no longer with us, just look at the layout and collection Frank Senatra had. It was so big you can actually buy a one hour DVD special about it...

I remember a picture of Gary Coleman years back. He was holding an new HO SD50 in his hands.

I remember the episode regarding that date. True, she was a real immature "night clubbing" personality type pain (uggh!), but at the same time Gary was pesimisstic in his conversations with her. He too, was at fault for the bad evening!!

I learned the hard way that when a date with a lady is not going well, stay cool with your comments and end it early on a positive note!! That's what Gary should have done! (same mistake so many of us guys have made also at sometime). As I watched that torturous dating episode, I knew he felt crushed.

When getting to know someone, don't ever take them to a model club or hobby shop early on. Take it easy and get to know the person's likes and dislikes.

Back in the 80s, when I was dating the young lady that eventually became my wife, I found out after a week that she collected LOTS of stuffed animals! Bingo! I knew then that she would likely understood my passion for trains.......and of course, she did!.... [:X][:D]

I was shopping at Allied Model Trains in 1989 and Gary Coleman was in the store shopping as well.

That's my own personal GC story.

Does anyone remember the movie Gary did in the 80's where he lived in a train station in a locker? In the end he got a boxcar or a caboose to live in.

Wow he has a $150,000 layout for real. He must own a home in that case. Who the hell would invest that much into a layout in a apartment. I was under the impression that guy was broke and struggling for work. He seems to have a bad attitude too when I se him on TV like the Surreal Life. YA know?

Eddystone yes I do remember the movie and also have the movie too. It is called ON THE RIGHT TRACK and the funny thing is when I logged onto that site above I saw that they are selling boxcars that read on the right track. He was also Jimmy The Kid too in another movie.

YES and the layout was built by Staff and other's connected with Caboose Hobbies in Denver..

This purpotedly replaced one built by someone advertising in MR. According to Gary it was severely lacking. There was a local article in which desribed "mountain's that resembled loaves of bread".

I don't know if HE every actually built a layout.

I was in Allied Model Trains (Los Angeles) in February and Gary was there. I seem to recall seeing him there on other occasions also. A few years ago he appeared to be working in a train shop I visited in Brea, CA.

And Roy Cohn, who was notorious for being Joe McCarthy's chief counsel: he ran Lionel for a little while, not very successfully, if I remember right.

Gary Coleman lived in Highlands Ranch, CO, in one of the former Parade of Homes homes. He added a big addition to the lower level just for his model trains. He also worked at Caboose Hobbies during that time according to one of the newspaper accounts I read. Highlands Ranch is on the south side of Denver.

That is so very true. No wonder why he is broke, he is a model railroader. I giggled just a little bit on that.
