New addition!! Might not be suitable for U.P. fans
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 6:29 PM
Here's the new paint scheme for the Rock. They decided to use those flag the U.P. bought before the hostle take over. The SD70MACs are the first to receive the new scheme. There is also a SD80Mac in the paint shop getting a new look after getting some maintenance. The Executive scheme will still be used for the time being but any new power will receive the new look.

Please let me know what you think. I still have some touch ups to do so keep that in mind. I am just too happy with the way it came out that I had to post some pics. You can check my album by way of the link in my sig to see the other schemes for comparison.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I like it[[:D] Too cool[8D], i've often wonder what some fallen flag schemes would be like on new power ( A WP dash 9 for example). Good to see you keeping the RI memory alive.
SP the way it was in S scale

Good job on the paint scheme. Looks GREAT! But I have to ask, what hostile takeover? The Rock filed bankruptcy and ceased operations in 1980. The trustees sold some of the assets to other railroads, including the UP. THERE WAS NO HOSTILE TAKEOVER. Southern Pacific got some of the major routes and was later taken over by the UP. A government agency owns the trackage in western Kansas and it is operated by the Kyle Railroad. I guess modeler's license let's you rewrite history if you want, but by the time the Rock shut down the physical plant was in such bad shape that no one, including the UP would have mounted the effort for a "hostile takeover".
But back to the subject, you did a great job on the paint. I really like it!

Cheers,

Ed

Nice job! What a great idea, just going on as if the Rock's flag never fell--I like the scheme. Long may your railroad prosper.

This thread reminds me of something. A guy in St. Louis who is active in the Burlington Route Historical Society painted up a pair of modern wide cab units in CB&Q paint. He used both the "blackbird" and the "Chineese Red" schemes, applying one to a big GE and the other to a new EMD. I think you can still see them at the BRHS website. They were lettered "Burlington and Missouri River" a CB&Q predecessor road. I believe the website is:
I can see it now, CB&Q dash 9's, Rock Island SD90s, Frisco SD-70MACs, etc.

Whooops! That gets you to the website of a Roman Catholic high school in Columbus, OH. Try:

A thousand pardons.

Trivia Question: What movie detective of a former era used to say, "A thousand pardons" Hint: He was often assisted by his "number one son" and sometimes by his "number two son".

I have both a Dash 9 and the 90mac in my Rock Executive scheme. To answer the other question..there was a hostile take over. My modeler's liscense will prove it.[:D]

Go to the above address, click on Modeler's Depot, then click on David Lotz to see his big EMDs and GEs in CB&Q paint. They would look neat interchanging with the modern Rock Island stuff that began this thread.

Any takers on the trivia?

I like it. In fact, I'll sort of be doing the same thing, now that the Bessemer and Lake Erie has taken over and absorbed Canadian National into the Bessemer system <cough cough> [8D]

Ray out.
