LIGHTING & DETAILING A CON-COR SUPERLINER SET(help needed)
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 25, 2005 1:24 PM
Hello my fellow rails fans,
I'm seeking some valuable advice on a project of mine. I'm a huge fan of Kato Superliners, I currently run two eight car trains double headed by P42s.
The problem is this, I got a five car superliner set by Con-Cor which is by no means comparable to the Kato set but after looking closely at the cars though I wondered if the interior details as well as lighting made by kato could be easily installed or is it going to take a lot of work that would not be worth the effort. Has anyone out there ever tried such an installation? What would be your advice? Is there some other maker on the market that has better kits that wou;ld ease the effort and produce an acceptable result?
This set was given to me as a gift and I would like to try and make it work.

Building a SUPERLINER of the Empire Builder is on my list of "to do". To that end I have aquired ONE Con-Cor car. You are right about the detail. I haven't tried any KATO kit instalation, but check RAIL MODEL JOURNAL for the last 2 or 3 months. There is an article in there about detailing a Con-cor Dining Car. Several references discuss interior details - including the SUPERLINER. Check it out - good luck!!

IHC has interior lighting kits. I have used them in Atheran Passenger cars, heavyweight and streamline. They work pretty good. I don't like their pick-ups so I use Jay-Bees.. I thought CON-Cor was made by Walthers. You might try their lighting kits.

I have the opportunity for closer examination of my mag's.

Railmodel Journal, Feb. '05: Pg. 36-39. Check out the interior detailed (Con-Cor I think) SUPERLINER diner on Pg 39.

Detail Co. indicated is "Palace Car Company". Website:
