Poor Running Kato N Scale RDC

I just got a Kato N scale RDC but it's not running properly, it sounds like the wheels are spinning in place. When I tap it, it'll go a few more inches but then goes back to hardly moving and can't make it around any kind of curve. I'm sure it's on the track properly, although it is hard to tell for sure.
Anyone ever have a problem like this or know of a way to help it?

Exchange it for one that is working properly.

Is it new? If so, did you try it out before you bought it? If it ran good there then it's probably something else.

i've got two of the kato rdc's and they run well. the're quiet smooth runners either singly or together. if you bought it new take or send it back for a replacement.

Is the car 8 wheel drive? if it is, it could be running on just one truck, and the other one might have a missing driveshaft between the flywheel and geartower. this will cause the worm gear not to turn, locking the wheels in place, therefore causing the car to drag itself on one truck.
