Cox shell on an Athearn frame?
Posted by dragenrider on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 9:08 PM
Will this shell fit an Athearn GP-9 frame? Also, is the front open around the coupler like an old Tyco engine or enclosed like Athearn?

I'm interested in the shell, not the motor. Any information you can share with me about Cox's products would be appreciated.

I don't know about the GP9 but the cars were Athearn in a Cox box I had a pair of their Bay window caboose and a gon Both Athearn. I think I saw a GP35 that was Athearn but in a Cox box. Cox 47

I would guess that the shell would fit as it was copied from the Athearn shell and has a wide hood.
The pilot is open for the truck mounted couplers.
Here's a link to a page on the Cox GP9.

The Cox line of locomotives use the Athearn GP7 drive..Today that body is being use by Walther's on their own drive and will no longer fit a Athearn frame without a lot of modifications to the inside of the shell and the Athearn frame.
