I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, so when it comes to "most people," I would have to know a bit more about them before I put up my two cents.

Now - having said that - what bothers me about some polls is that they are not at all well thought out nor in keeping with what I expect to see on a model railroad or real railroad forum. I am NOT without humor - believe me - I love a laugh along with the best of 'em - BUT to call something a poll when it really is simply a geneal question with no appreciable use for the responses - well .......... you figure it out!

I would like to see poll initiation restricted to those with established credentials in real or model railroad (MRR, Trains magazine staff - Walthers and other vendors of model railroading "stuff," and so on.) Of course QUESTIONS of one another surely would continue - just reign in the polls submissions!

Happy Railroading! Siberianmo

Hmmmmm. To poll, or not to poll, that is the question. (Move over, Will.)

How many creative ways are there to ask which loco you like best? If you could be found in a Hearse with only one loco, what loco would that be?!!! A, B, C, ..., Other?

If you could buy just one more loco, what one more loco would that be? A, B, C, ..., Other?

Who makes the best loco? [Why, I happen to have it (if not, why not?)], so is it: A, B, C, ..., Other?

(gag) (retch)

Yeah, I could pretty much take 'em or leave 'em. [:D]

One problem I see (as an educator) is that many of the polls on this forum are not very well thought out and/or designed.

If you ARE going to do a poll, please put some time, thought and effort into it !

Think about what you really want to find out from the poll, and consider ALL of the possible responses you will need in your poll. Do some RESEARCH before typing!

It's hard to do a good one - even the ones on the CNN website are often very poorly done, IMHO.

Personally, POLLS don't bother me because it I think the subject is silly, I just blow by it. Why some people get so upset is beyond me. Why let it bother you, just don't read that thread!!! What is the magnet that draws you to the POLL like a fly to honey? Do you like being hit off the head with a hammer because it feels so good when it stops?
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I enjoy most of them, skip the ones I don't. It's a fun thing. Maybe we ought to have a poll contest. Every one make up one and then we'll vote on the best one (in another poll of course).[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]
Enjoy

The endless silly polls push other more relevant threads down in the list, that's one reason why I can do without them!

1. They are usually poorly worded so they don't generate a clear consensus.
2. They are such a small sample size they aren't representative.
3. They are usually on a subject (such as this one) that have been done a gazillion times before.

Maybe we should all have a Poll to see if this poll about polls is even looked at.

I do not vote on polls because the data is usually invalid and not used for anything other than posting.

If Atlas or Kato gave a poll to see what engine was to be built, I would participate. .

He didnt get deleted for making polls, he used vulgar language and just had a generally bad attitude. He is a pretty good modeler he just needs to calm down a little.
