Anyone know where I can get Southern Pacific Cabooses and rolling stock. I have been very unsuccessful in locating Espee stuff.

if you are in HO that shouldn't be a problem...just about every hobby shop carries the SP roadname...try trainworld, standard hobby, internettrains.com, H&R trains, just about anywhere...chuck

I just recently received an SP boxcar that I ordered from Discount Trains. It would help us answer your question if you mentioned more about what you're looking for, such as the era you are modeling and the quantity and type of rolling stock you're interested in. Just for starters though, you can check the Walther's Catalog and order through your LHS (Local Hobby Shop) if there is such a thing in your area. Also check the larger suppliers that advertise in Model Railroader. Most of them have websites that allow you to check the availability of the items you are looking for. One other place to find stuff is at train shows, which may or may not be an option in your area.

What era and what scale? Walthers has an HO SP C30-1 wooden caboose in plastic and American Model Builders has the same thing in a laser cut wood kit. Athearn's HO bay window caboose is based on an SP caboose class C40-4 that was built in 1959/1960.

Here's a pic of a prototype C40-4: http://www.snowcrest.net/photobob/cbw3.html.

Red Caboose makes a number of SP freight cars in HO scale and makes a few in N.

In N, Micro Trains makes an SP C30-1 wooden caboose.

Also, the Con-Cor bay window caboose in N is based on an SP prototype. I don't know how accurate it is as I'm in HO.

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

One thing to remember once you get your hands on any SP cabooses is DIRT! I don't think they ever washed them. I see one or two around NW Oregon from time to time and they are just filthy. If you can't find what you are looking for e-mail me and I'll build you one! I work pretty cheap and they guys at the club all say I do cabooses and flat cars the best! I'll build it clean or weathered, your choice!

Ranell, you can also contact Whistle Stop Trains here in Portland and Charlile will be happy to work with you if you can't find what you want at home. He carries everything from Athearn to Red Caboose and brass if you REALLY want to go crazy! You can find him at <wsor.com>. Charlie is the greatest! Tell him I sent you! He gets a lor of stuff on consignment and from estate sales if you don't mind running used stuff. Let me know and I'll peruse the shelves next time I go in!

I would asume that raneill is not in the western U.S,? I find that the items a hobby shop has for sale tend to match the prototypes that run or ran there. Except for Santa Fe, of course, and maybe UP, which are found everywhere. Here in California half the equipment at any shop is SP, with a smattering of Santa Fe, WP and UP. We don't see much Pennsy or NYC. I imagine on the other coast the story is reversed. In Chicago, of course, they have so many railroads they need extra hobby shops to hold all the stuff...

You didn't fill out your profile so people can see where you live, but since some of your previous posts pertained to Long Beach, California, I assume you live near there. SP cabooses (cabeese?) should be plentiful in hobby shops around the LA area if you're modeling in HO scale. Indicating what scale you're talking about would help, though.
