Our local Dollar Stores carry "party" jewelery that contain red flashing LEDs and batteries. Some are necklaces, others are belly button lights or rings, lots of choices. Some have the LED quite exposed, others they are enclosed within jewel like plastic that has to be torn apart. I've bought several different kinds thinking they could easily be used for FREDs. They even sell mulitple packs of the little button batteries that power them. I intend to install one of the LEDs in the roof of a car to make a police or fire chief car too. Can't beat the price!
