Got yet another one for my Forum friends. Does anyone know if any manufacturer makes HO scale people throwing horsehoes? I thought about putting a horseshoe area in a park area I have on my layout. I have an area set up for it but I've never come actoss figures for that.
Second, what is a good source for wire that is .011" actual? That is 1" in HO scale which is the correct diameter of a horse shoe stake. It is roughly the same size as a #80 drill bit for reference.
As usual any ideas woud be most welcomed.

If you can't find people who are actually throwing horseshoes then I think it would be fairly easy to modify an existing figure by rearranging the arms and legs.
Tichy Train Group sells 0.010" phosphor bronze wire. I doubt that anyone could tell the difference between that and 0.011" wire.
For the horseshoes, just bend some brass or phosphor bronze wire into the right shape and hammer it flat.

Since in a game of horseshoes ony one person is tossing at a time, I think you would only need to modify one figure.
In every game of horseshoes I have played, one person tosses while three are basically just standing around.

A #80 drill bit would be slightly larger at 0.0135"...

I wouldn't sweat the exact diameter for the posts or horseshoes. You might find a tennis player and cut off the racquet.

I guess it depends if the horseshoes you use are for ponys or Clydesdales.

Although as a kid, I have played horse shoes with real shoes from a horse. The game you can buy does not have real shoes. A representation of a shoe. Usually no grip lugs, nail slots, and hoof guides.
My uncle had a set of horses used in pulling contests. Strong animals and trained to work together at the sound of the ring hitting the sled pin.

@FRRYkid, here's a thought... with the pits and stakes in place and with the shoes laying at the stakes and the two or four players standing like the throw is finished. No special horse shoe players needed, no arm readjustments would be needed, no player standing in a frozen postion with an arm in the back postion with a shoe in hand, forward postion with a shoe in hand or just after the release.
@wrench567, reading above about your uncle and those very big horses brought back a vision in my mind. One time at a 'lumber/logging' event (Cherry Springs State Park, Pa.) when the competitor dropped that ring and it hit the sled pin, it made that sound (dink) of the ring hitting the sled pin, but some how it missed (bounced off ?) and those horses took off with out the log, it took half the course to get them stopped. The other time right after the start of the pull, the log rolled on to the competitors legs and with a jee or a ha those horses pulled the log in the direction to roll the log off the competitor then he and the horses keep going. Those horses are very big, powerful, beautiful and awesome.

Didn't realize they went that small. I have some .020" that was going to use if I couldn't find anything. It's about a 1/2" too big scalewise.
According to the offical rules that I looked up for dimensions, the pole is 1" in diameter.
I have my own corollary to that saying: horseshoes, hand grenades and (unfortunatly) nuclear weapons.

That is an idea I hadn't thought of but it would definitely work as well. I wasn't going to make anything real spectacular. The plan is more like a backyard game with just the poles and the dirt around the stakes.

No, no, no, no!!!! The scene will be absolutely dead as far as implied activity is concerned! You have to have some people playing the game!!!
One of the biggest challenges in model railroading is to make a scene look like there is something going on. Don't waste that opportunity! You must add in a picnic table, a barbeque and some people having fun!
I'm sorry for my forceful response, but you shouldn't miss the opportunity to make the scene 'pop'.

I used to sit and watch the horse pulling contests at the county fair every year. About eight years ago the local snowflakes petitioned the organizers to ban the event because they thought it cruel to the horses. It only takes a few to ruin things for many.
As for scale fidelity. Strive for what looks right and not true scale size. After all, our miniature worlds of model railroading is all compromised.

I'm still waiting for somebody to offer UNIFORMED baseball players. Woodland Scenics offers kids playing sandlot baseball. I was hoping Shapeways might come up with something but nothing last I checked.

Would someone buy a generic uniform design? How many people would be willing to paint entire teams?

If I was interested in players in major league uniforms, that might be an issue. I know for fact the New York Yankees are very protective of their trademarks. There was a TV show a number of years ago about a baseball team called Clubhouse. It was set in New York. I can't remember what the name of the team was. It was not the Yankees but in the pilot episode, the team had pinstripe uniforms which are closely identified with the Yankees. I'm guessing the Yankees took action because in all future episodes, the team had plain white uniforms. Yankee players who appear in commercials also can't appear in Yankee uniforms.
Getting back to my problem, I guess I wasn't specific enough. I'm looking for Little League baseball players in uniform. Any generic looking uniform would do. I'd even be happy with unpainted figures. It wouldn't take long to paint two teams worth of players. The baseball field is set in the background with the track running by the field so they don't need to be too detailed. Just something to look like a game is going on.
