The Harriman Dispatch Center in Omaha, where 36,000 miles of track and 850 trains are controlled. The building is called "The Bunker". Not exactly keeping in the theme of signals this month, but I guess it's the equivalent of an old signal tower.

Good morning everyone. Chloe, I would like to start the day with some pan fried patty sausage and grits with white gravy.
York1I don't remember ever tasting a Mango. I'll have to try one sometime. The problem may be our part of the country. I don't remember ever seeing one in a store.
The one in my yard is a Zill High Performance Nursery designer hybrid. I think the variety is Tangerine Essence. It is a delicious mango.
I planted another Zill Hybrid last year, an Orange Sherbet variety because all the critics were raving that this was the best mango ever.
Unfortunately, the little tree did not survive the 140 MPH winds from Hurricane Ian.
Due to storm damage at the nursery, Zill Hybrids are hard to get now, and cost hundreds of dollars.
Anyway, you cannot find mangoes like these in a supermarket.

JaBearThe boys up there finely cut a chilli into salt into which one dipped the slice of fresh mango. Hot, salty, and sweet, very tasty!
I will never forget the first time I had hot mango salsa on a taco.
What a surprising and perfect blend of different flavors. Wonderful!

Yup!! We took the first step a few days ago by clearing off most of the crap that had been piled on it. The next step will be to finish getting the foam sub roadbed perfectly flat. I have most of that done.
This young lad is going to be a model railroader!!! (At least for a few years). I look forward to having the sorts of experiences like those that NorthBrit talks about with his grandchildren. My grandson will be able to put as many dinosaurs and rocket ships on the layout as he wants, and if he wants to run a train flat out so be it.
That is going to be a stretch for me because my past approach to young children is that they should be quiet and obedient. I can hear all of you experienced grandparents laughing now, but I am determined to change my attitude. Wish me luck!

That will take you about two minutes once you hold him the first time. Grandchildren are a lot of fun without all the responsiblities of the parenting.

Sitting in a campground in the pouring rain right now. First day here. A few weeks ago we rented a cabin for four days and it rained every day. Now a three day camping trip and it's supposed to rain all three days. Both trips were scheduled back in February. There is a third we scheduled at the same time coming up. Wish us luck!

Congratulations Dave. You will have lots of delights and adventures ahead of you. You can forget about your grandchild being quiet and they will sometimes be disobedient, but you do not have to put up with defiance. Enjoy him. He will bring you lots of joy.

Thanks everyone for all the kind comments about us becoming grandparents. I still haven't quite got my head around the fact! Dianne was able to see the wee lad (Callum Glenn Warnica) on Sunday and she got to hold him. I declined to make the trip to the hospital because I couldn't possibly walk the distance from the parking lot to the maternity ward and I wouldn't ask Dianne to push the wheelchair that far. I'll see him soon enough.

Mike, I probably would like to be in a cabin or tent somewhere, listening to the rain. Of course, not the whole time I was there, like you did.
Kevin and Bear, I can't bring myself to like the combination of sweet and salty. I've tried, but I usually wish the sweet part wasn't there.
Charlie, I'm almost packed and ready to go. I leave tomorrow morning. Including the grandkids, there are 15 of us flying into Munich. We'll rent two vans there, see sights in southern Germany, then to Italy. Once there, we ditch the vans and take trains everywhere else. I'm sure the kids and grandkids will do well -- it's me I'm worried about. There's lots of hiking involved. My wife's not going, and she's seems completely happy with the idea that I won't be here for three weeks.
Ulrich lives on the other side of Germany from where we'll be, but I'll yell 'hello' out the window to him from everyone in the diner.

John, have fun on your trip. That is quite the gang going. I have only travelled with my wife.
Had some excitement here yesterday. Had an Indigo Bunting visit the yard. What a beautiful bird. We got some great photos including it having a bath in the pond. Later a racoon was cleaning up some bird seed on the circle and it was being stalked by a cat who the decided to have a confrontation with the racoon. We were able to put the garden hose in play and the cat ran off. It must have had a death wish. While the cat would be quick, racoons have far larger jaws and razor claws. The racoon was a smaller adult, not the very large male that sometimes comes around. If that cat tries for it, I think it would quickly be a goner.
Plans for today include cleaning the car interior, shampoo carpets, clean and treat the seats. The leather has no cracks or wear marks and I want to keep it that way. The car sure doesn't look like it is 13 years old. The paint is still very glossy.
My wife has hurt her back, likely lower back muscles. It has happened before. She should see a physio but is afraid due to covid. Everything is at a standstill in the yard

My roof was supposed to be started today, but not all the supplies are available. The drip edge painted to match the roof did not arrive is what I was told. The roof is white metal, and we sell white drip edge at Home Depot...
Maybe the metal roof requires a different style drip edge? Oh well. Just two more weeks.
Dave: Congratulations. Having a grandchild is awesome. I am so glad my daughter moved back to Florida with mine. I hope yours lives close enough.
