Alco FA-1 numberboards
Posted by steveiow on Saturday, April 1, 2023 10:45 AM

Anyone know of a source of these number boards, that is the flat ones supplied to RDG and L&NE units-and others no doubt.

I have tried all the usual suspects DA,DW,Cal Scale etc but can't find any.

Thanks

I found a Details West package with four number boards somewhat similar to those used on the FAs, with curved backsides, but with rounded corners.
However, after looking at my 5 Rocco FAs, it doesn't look like they'd be all that difficult to make the number boards, using some suitably-sized strip styrene and a decent half-round file to match the sharpish curve where the number boards should be located.

I have two motorised FAs and two FBs, but need motors for another 3 FAs and another 3 FBs...the 10 of them should weigh-in at least 10lbs, which should be useful for some longish trains.

Wayne-I think you've hit the nail on the head and I'll have to make my own,I know the ones you are on about but they aren't what I want.

I bought a Wallys Trainline FA in UP off flea bay for about $25 made by Roco I think, and a set of decals from K4 Decal company for L&NE so looks like a homemade attempt-the class lights should be interesting.

I Many years back I was disatisfied with the numboards on the Train Miniature now Walthers FA1. Back then Athearn PA1 numberboards were available as a part I ordered some, they worked fine. The package had both types of numberboards. The type you are looking for could be shaved or filed down a little . Unfortunately a few years agoI contacted Athearn about these parts and they told me they were no longer available. I will try to see if I still have some packaged and get the part number. Maybe a search on Ebay might help.

Ron

Thanks for that, you struck a long lost memory chord,I remember using them but what for...well,it was about 25 years ago!

Anyway,I found some at TMR distributing in Toronto,I need some other stuff as well so I'll order it all together.

I did try A-Line but was stumped twice-they don't have any and don't post international-I live in U.K.

Thanks again
