I went with the gray nickel silver track and the only maintenance I have performed is some eraser work on the rails.[/quote]</p> <p>The gray ballast nickel silver based product is perfectly fine.  The black ballast steel rail (while a bit more prototypical I guess) is not the best.  I doubt you would be giving kudos if you went with the steel track.</p>
