Afternoon Folks!
Yesterday evening I had the "honor" of chauffeuring my sister from Quail Summit in Canandaigua where she now lives to the Hotel at the Rochester Airport! (Aren't I lucky!!!!) She could drive herself but then she would have to pay for a week's parking and why should she do THAT when she can con her brother into spending his $$$ to taxi her there. I do care about her but she is not fun to be around as she knows everything about everything and everyone else is is wrong and stupid! My late wife used to use the phrase, "It's too late to agree with me, I changed my mind!"
OK, Rant over!
We did get treated to an amazing sight just as we headed North out of Cananadaigua. Made it worth putting up with her for a couple hours...Thought I would share...

Looks like my oldest daughter's medical issues have come back. Apparently this is going to be a chronic thing. I can't begin to express how frustrated I am. What's more is she's off to college, so it isn't like we can just take care of her. Dad's fix things. I can't fix this. Makes me feel so inadequate and a bit helpless. I need a drink.
I think I mentioned that I got new phones for the family on some special exchange deal. Got my youngest's phone set up in about a half hour last night. Got mine set up in about the same amount of time. Spent the next 3.5 hours on my wife's phone. It was a nightmare. Ultimately, if I didn't have a backup of her old phone on the computer getting the new one set up would not have been possible. Makes me nervous about doing my oldest daughter's phone when we go to see her next. I wasn't planning on bringing my desktop computer with me!

SeeYou190I am having real internet problems on this computer for the last 12 hours or so. Everything is going super-slow.
Over the past few days I've noticed a "disturbance in the force" or whatever the quote was. I had pages that would only partially load. In Flickr I would get the "bad Panda" page frequently and the Kalmbach sites wouldn't load at all giving me a 504 error or "bad request" notification.
Even attachments and photos in emails wouldn't load.
Today things seem to be much faster. In the past when I noticed some of these things I would stumble across reports of outages because of either attempted hackings or sometimes physical interruptions such as cables (or fiber bundles) being ripped up due to construction, fires or the like. There are sites that track such things if you really want to dig into the nuts and bolts of it.
We're still having cold, blustery days here with rain mixed with heavy snow. Not much accumulation, maybe an inch or so. Sure is having an affect on the leaves as they're falling like... well, alot.

Our cold snap is over with a high of 50F today. It was only 35 for the past couple of days and down to 15 at night. Despite multiple layers on the plants some didn't make it. Got the leaves cleaned out of the evestroughs today and covered the A/C. Some yard cleanup too.
Ray, I have an older sister who seems much like yours. There isn't much she isn't an expert on and she loves to tell me. I talk to her on occasion but haven't seen her in 3 years. She is still making excuses for her 3 useless sons.
Back in 2020 I bought 3 brass locos. I have been tracking prices and they are up a lot for the same models. No further purchases will be made but I have been tempted.
Time for tea.

LOL!!! I actually do like my sister even though she is a total pain most of the time. She probably really wouldn't be competent to drive herself to the airport... Hasn't been in many years. Actually I don't think she ever has gotten herself to the airport. A lot more fun to con somebody else! She also drives a 25 year old little piece of junk with a 5 speed transmission, because automatics are just too confusing to drive.... She alternates between yelling that she !HATES! my Tesla and telling me how wonderful it is. That usually depends whether she can figure out how to open the door (I have shown her and coached her about 100 times at least, but......).
She also insistes that we must talk the whole way and just can't figure out that, being deaf, I usually read lips. I do that especially with her because she talks loud then soft, speakes very fast, and mumbles a lot..... One time I pulled off the side of the freeway, stopped the car, looked at her and said, WHAT!!!! She got very upset that I did that, and why don't I just look at her when she talks. Rather difficult to do that and drive the car at 80mph down the freeway to avoid being run off the road in rush hour traffic.... Amazing, because she knows that she is the brilliant one in the family (she's not!)... LOL

Good evening, everyone. It was a beautiful, cool day on the plains.
The visiting company left today, so we have been washing towels, sheets, etc. It's nice to see relatives, and it's also nice to get the house back to ourselves.
David, I hope your wife's sessions at the hospital do some good and she can get some relief.
Tin Can, I'm glad you were able to see the football game. I'm not glad about the outcome.
Lion, it's good to hear you are able to get up to the subway room again. That was a long time to be away from your layout.
Kevin, it's good that you are able to get to work and help people. It's probably a pain being so busy, but the service you are providing is so important in providing people with materials for recovery.
Ed, that Everett Railroad looks like a pretty neat place.
Bear, I'm not sure why, but I've never pictured Japan as a place to see fall colors. I'm sure with their beautiful gardens, the fall colors must be great.

Charlie, since you got your eavestroughs cleaned out, maybe you could drop by my house and do mine. This time of year, I usually make a few trips around the house on the ladder. I don't like it.
Years ago, I went to visit my 85-year-old father and found out he had been up the extension ladder and on the roof cleaning his gutters. I asked to borrow his ladder, and I conveniently forgot to return it whenever I visited again.

Yup. we have to pay 58c/mile to operate our cars. (That is what the government says, and so we use their numbers.) Doesn't matter that we move tghis money from one pocket to the other, that's accounting and it must be one correctly.
If I want to take a car to visit somewhere, I have to write down the mileage, and the have to note what department is to be charged for this trip.
So tell her that it costs 58c per mile to operate your car and who is going to pay for that?

So yes, I got up to the train room. I wanted to wire more feeders to the railroad. I got someone to bring my soldering iron back up to the train room and started looking for my wire. I have (had?) a big box of wire I salvaged from the christmas light that I canibalized to get the LEDs for the layout. Well there are also two good lengths of 18ga wire to be salvaged aw well. But find them I could not. It occured to me that that box may be down in the computer room since that is where I did my work.
Oh well, I took some pictures and juat sat around looking at the layout

Not done that, Brent, but I like it. I very much doubt we will travel there with the challenges Dawn is experiencing. Having said that, she is looking at visiting Dubai and Qatar. (We have friends living there.)

So this could get interesting. When I bought the new car for my wife the other day, the finance guy(Marcus) at the dealer said they did not need the title from the car I was trading in as other paperwork I signed eliminated that need. Great. Fast forward to yesterday where I'm discussing with a higher up finalizing the change in title on the new car to which they are being very gracious in making it happen. Something about how Indiana has to handle the title on the new vehicle. (Bought the car in Indiana and they handle things very different than in Michigan. Not for the better either. Then again the reasoning I got from her and from Marcus were different, so who knows what's right at this point. Either way, according to her, they are bending the rules to save me a six hour round trip to sign one piece of paper that I could not sign the day of the deal. An Indiana thing.) Anyway, she calls me back and asks if I still have the title on the car we traded in. I told her I did and thought it was odd when Marcus told me it wasn't needed. She said "Marcus is wrong" and they need the title. Well, it appears in the week between driving home in the new car and yesterday, I must have shredded the old title. Moral of the story, if you don't live in Indiana, don't buy a car in Indiana.

I wouldn't lie to her.... It only costs me about 3¢ per mile to drive my Model 3 Tesla. Of course I charge at home and since my panels are already paid for and I buy 100% green power from the grid (very cheap under contract), I could say it costs even less.... LOL
Mike: Had similar issues re-titling our cars when we moved to Kansas. Our Kansas county would not accept electronic titles. We had the title to our truck, that was easy. The title to our SUV was held by Carvana; and it took forever to get the TX title to the county to get it registered. We drove the car for several months past the expiration date of the paper tag because Kansas law allows for no extensions for extenuating circumstances with car titles. To add insult to injury, Kansas charges an arm and a leg for vehicle registrations every year. In TX it was $75 to $85 to register a vehicle. In KS, it is $400 to $600 depending on the age of the vehicle.
The picture of the coffee cake you posted is just like a coffee cake that my paternal grandmother used to make. It was so good, nothing better than a slice of her coffee cake, warm out of the oven.
I believe my internet problems are either my router, antenna, or service provider. Not really sure how to troubleshoot any of this, but I do knbow I need a new computer.
Plus, the living room is done, so no more dust in the house... FINALLY.
Maybe it is time for a replacement.

It was a pain registering my car here in Delaware because i bought the car in Virginia and the state of Virginia had the title. It took a long time for them to mail it to me, but after that it was a breeze to deal with the DMV. It's cheap here, too, like just about everything else.
Careful thinking your car is basically free, Ray. California charges high registration fees because they're not satisfied with people not paying gas taxes.

Going to the Mideast next month, I decided to check into electrical needs. I ordered an adapter that claims it will work in 160 countries, including the ones I'm going to. I'm taking only a phone, so I won't need a converter.
It seems each country over there has their own type of plugs, so everytime we hit a diffferent country, I will have something that will plug in. I always knew there were different kinds, but never knew it was that varied country to country, especially when the countries all border each other.
I found this neat photo on a wallpaper site. It looks like someone has a model railroad with some trees, with an autumn wallpapter backdrop. Very neat.

Kevin, if you have an antenna for your Internet, particularly a rooftop one, it may have become loose and shifted out of alignment during the somewhat elevated winds you've had lately.
Can you connect normally to you home's wifi with your phone? That would use the same electronic path as the computer, and it's easier to carry from room to room.
House of LION uses fiber optic directly from the phone company. The even installed an extra 200 feet of the stuff from the telephone room to the computer closet. Good thing too, they put TV on it as well. We use UniFi access points. These routers have no visible anteni and Are connected to the main switch via cat-6 and power over IP so no batteries or AC connections. We have thre of the, one in each wing on the second floor level. These cover the entire monastery. There are two different nets, one for us and one for visitors. Password is the same across all of them. You can walk all around the building and never loose signal.
That is about as solid as we could make it.
