Digital Magazine Problems?
Posted by ricktrains4824 on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 11:01 AM

As was documented in a prior thread, iOS devices (Apple) are unable to download the new issue currently, with no date yet detirmined to be able to resume this.

However, the bigger problems - The online web veiwer has multiple pages zoomed in, mirrored, and upside-down, all at once, rendering multiple pages unreadable, and multiple articles unusable. (Starting on page 52, Touchscreen Turnout Control article, then every other page all the way through Trains of Thought. Classifieds and Vendor Ads are included.)

Is this simply an iOS issue? Is it simply an issue with my device? (Doubtful, but ruling it out if possible. Might be my rural internet service???, which is why the download option needs fixed ASAP.)

Has anyone else ever encountered this? Is there a fix? (Short of unsubscribing and requesting a refund...)

I thought "log-off then log-in and reload", but still have the same problem, and on the same pages. I also logged off, cleared cache & cookies, rebooted my device, then logged in again to force a full reload, with the same result...

As a "techie", I prefer digital issues, as it takes zero "bookshelf space" to keep as a referance an article or a few hundred, issues from the two competitors do not have these problems, can easily be downloaded on iOS, and are readable cover-to-cover, full-screen, without needing the (garbage non-full-screen) web viewer...

Interestingly, the current Trains issue does not have this problem on the web viewer, but it is also not like the competitor's full-screen veiw due to the "can't download" problem.

I'm reading the October issue as we speak (ok, write) on my Apple IPad with no problem.  I'm using Safari.

Having previously complained about trains.com, I haven't been having any problems lately.  The page layout also seems to be improved.

Colorado Ray - Which iOS version are you on? Is it 15.6.1? If not, maybe it dislikes that?

I was trying Safari, but have now downloaded Chrome just to see if that changes things.

Otherwise, my "spectacular" rural internet service must be the culprit. Bang Head

It all works fine on my PC and my two Samsung android devices......

I can read the mag on the web page or download the pdf.

But I still have nearly all the paper ones too, all the way back to about 1942.

I'm still using 15.5.  Living in a rural area can suck for internet.  At our farm I used to have to use a severely metered AT&T wireless plan.  Last year we got StarLink and it's great.
