Posting a Photo
Posted by CPbuff on Saturday, July 16, 2022 12:07 PM

Does anyone use Microsoft Onedrive to post a picture on this forum? As Onedrive came as part of my computer package and all others seem to want a fee of some kind! Is Onedrive considered a third party?

All that's required to make a photo 'postable' is to allow it to be accessed via an Internet-exposed URL.

This may not be accomplished by 'cloud' storage that maps to proprietary interfaces for security, or requires 'credentials' or cookies to be able to access the content.

Here is the official Microsoft document on how to configure the consumer version (which I ASSume is what you have) and change any necessary settings:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/required-urls-and-ports

(I don't use OneDrive actively, so this is provided without further comment on its contents)

The Forum software is so old that I doubt it requires https:// protocol, as modern browsers do, in the URL that references the image file.  Even valid http:// URLs with imperfectly updated site 'certificates' may cause a 'Danger, Will Robinson!' sort of security warning that treats access to the photo no differently from phishing attempts or cracking...

Upload your photo to Imgur, then choose "BBC" and post to this forum

Flickr has a free version that works good as well.

Back to the OP question - OneDrive must have a set web address for each picture to work here. Do they have a "share photo" option? If so, is there a "bbcode" option? If yes, it will work here, simply copy the bbcode and paste it on your post.

If only a share option, it might still work here, but with different posting methods.

I am returning to this forum after a year+ hiatus and wanted to start posting some photos.  I used to use Flikr and figured I would use it again since I was familiar with it.  I couldn't remember my password so I had them send me a reset.  They now require a TWELVE character password!!!  I created a new password that wasn't flattering to Flikr and will use it for the time being.  Twelve characters for a photo gallery!  Do they perceive themselves as being on par with the CIA?

CapnCrunch
They now require a TWELVE character password!!!

Hi Tim,

I'd say that is a minor inconvenience compared to getting hacked. Some creep out there could erase all of your saved photos, or flood you with all sorts of nasty images. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but getting hacked might also give the creeps access to your computer. Have you heard of Ransome Ware?

Hi Dave,

It's good to hear from you again.  I get the need for security but was just struck with the twelve letter requirement when compared with sites I am more anxious about like Amazon that only requires eight.  However, as I rethink my comment, It may well be that the twelve letter requirement is perhaps much less secure than that of Amazon where they mandate at least one capital letter, one number and a special character.  I expect the Amazon permutations far exceed that of just twelve letters.

Take care

I use Windows X and it gives me the option of remembering my passwords so I don't have to remember them. Ocassionally, I'll go back to a website I hadn't used in years, like Photobucket, and don't have it recorded. I had a some standard passwords that I used and was lucky enough to guess the right one on the first try.

I didn't get the paid version of Photobucket so I can't post pictures from there but I can download what I posted there and move them to imgur which is both easy to use and free.
