High railers have been done but only as low-volume kits. Kibri offer a static model based on a Mercedes Unimog truck, and someone offers a motorising kit for this - looks pretty good but is apparently very tricky to get hold of. It might be possible to build something combining a Tenshodo SPUD and a plastic kit for a base vehicle.

Bachmann are offering two MOW machines now - a Ballast tamper and a general MOW trolley thing with a hydraulic crane on the back. They also offer the tamper unpowered. I have one of the powered tampers and it's very good, and though I'm unsure how accurate it is, it certainly runs well - one truck is powered through a small motor with a flywheel which allows it to creep very slowly. Interestingly they offer the same units (with buffers and tension-lock couplings) in their UK range!
