pre-made square ditch light housing
Posted by Traincraft199 on Monday, March 14, 2022 6:05 PM

I'm looking to add ditch lights to some of my locomotives, but I really don't want to go through the hassle of drilling the hole through the tiny plastic piece, gluing the lens on, gluing the led on, etc. I know athearn sells their round ditch light housings on their website, which would be perfect for me, but I'm looking for the square one (like the one on the sd70ace or sd60e). But they don't list it on their site. Anyone know where/how to get them? (Or ones like them) I have leds ready so they don't need to come with the bulb

Well, the modern era detail market hasn't really matured in the eyes of manufactuters, if it ever will.  We're lucky to find any ditch lights at all, let alone specific ones.

Have you tried any of the vendors that specialize in 3D printing.  Sometimes ebay has obscure listings from small companies.

Scale Sound Systems makes these, although they are not completely assembled.

I've always made my own, or used Details West products.

As for myself. Id mount the LEDs first and then use some kid's modeling clay to sculpt the box around them. Paint em black or whatever color your railroad uses and be done with it.
