Does anyone know where i can get a DD35B DC unit? I have a DDA40X and it seems lonely.
I had to look it up but Wikipedia says that DD35 were all cabless units but I see a number sold on ebay as cab units so I don't know which is right. I had an undecorated cab unit until about a year ago. I had obtained it as part of an estate sale about 40 years ago. I didn't know what I had and never ran it. It looked like it would require a fairly large radius. I sold it to my LHS along with a lot of other stuff I collected over the years and never used.
There were a few DD35 cab units (you can find photos with a quick search). As for models of the B unit, PNW makes a resin shell and chassis. You'll need to custom paint it and add handrails and other details, and it will also need a couple Athearn trucks to finish it:

alrighty, well thanks!
What about a model that is fully completed and painted? I dont have the room right now but i will see if i can make room if i have to.
Here is the story of the DD35s and why the first units were built without cabs, but some were made with them later:

Note that these were among the last EMDs built with DC main generators, and had GP-35 style electrical issues. To my knowledge they were not geared for the high speed of the DDA40X or the Fast Forties, and they did not have the rapid loading that made the Centennials such capable fast-freight locomotives.
Aside from brass, there haven't been any ready to run DD35B models. Overland Models factory painted theirs in UP, SP and as an EMD demo paired with a GP35.

If you want another good option for the DDA40X, you can get a SD40-2 in the 8000 series known as the "Fast Forties," which were higher geared to run with DDA40X's and DD35's in fast freights over the Union Pacific.
