Dwarvin lamplighter 1

Just bought one but no power supply, could not find requirments on their website and they do not sell the power supply separate. Got it along with fiber and lights for $10, what did I have to lose. I remember fiber was a big thing in the 60's, wish now I had kept that stuff.

They show a power supply on their website. Look on the second-page fourth one down. I'm looking to get one.

Not sure what you’re saying. What did you get for $10.  I didn’t see any power supply/fiber combination on their site for $10.

Looks like the power supply itself is $8.50  https://www.dwarvin.com/collections/all-products/products/lamplighter-power-supply

Not sure what he bought as they have 'packages' to light up and/or control the lights..

Didn't say I bought from them, lighting was just not in the picture yet on things to do, that may now change.

A couple projects that I used fiber optics on I made my own "Dwarvin" lamp by sticking an LED into one end of a piece of heat shrink tubing and the fiber bundle into the other. Got a grocery bag full of various sized of optic strands I've collected over the years.

5¢ for the LED and maybe a dime for the optic strands.

Worked for me, anyway.

I'm trying to understand the advantages of fiber optics over LEDs. What's the difference whether you have to run wires or fiber optic cables to your structures?

Right now my lighting is a mixture of LEDs and grain-of-wheat incandescents. The latter was some of the earliest lighting I did about 15-20 years ago. Everything new is LED. Are the grain-of-wheat incandescents still being manuactured?

You can still get the incandescents, lots of them out there. Fiber can be smaller than LED's and never burn out and they don't care what light sorce you use, are easy to change color or shape. Disadvantage is no right angles if you need them.

This post caught my eye. I received an email ad for the Dwarvin system. I'm familiar with fiber optics and I am curious if any forum members have used this system.

Used fiber back in the 60's and it worked great. This is basically a box with a light source.  The light is very bright and got it working with a WS wall wort, have a bunch of those as on my old layout I used a bunch of foam cutters including a batch I got as parts on e-bay for cheap (had extra wire, wall worts and posts that I experimented modifying which did not work well by the way).

Spoke too soon, light went out, seems to have a thermal proterctor inside so even though the wall wort was only 9 volts, it would go out, we shall see what I can find today in wall worts.
