<p>Although the post civil war 4-4-0´s were the key loco in the making of a nation, they never became as iconic and popular as the Big Boys, Challengers, Cab Forward´s and other behemoths. Apparently, manufacturers do not see a chance of selling a sufficient amount to make a reasonable profit.</p> <p>It´s a pity, but I don´t think it will change. European model railroaders suffer as well, there are hardly any pre-1900 locos and rolling stock around.</p>
