In the last week two of my new DCC w/sound engines barely creep through the layout where just a few days ago, the were speed demons. Other similar engines continue to speed along as normal. Have cleaned wheels so that's not the issue. Is there something on my NCE controller that might affect this. I have done factory reset to both engines with no improvement. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Cliff
You said you reset them, but check the value of CV5 and CV6 just in case. Set CV5 to 255 (full throttle) and CV6 to 128 (50% throttle) and see what happens.
You can also check them with a regular DC analog throttle and see if they run normally on that. Just make sure CV29 is set to allow DC operation (as in set at 38 or 06).
Who's the manufacturer of the sound decoders? Each one is a bit different.
I would second the idea of doing a full reset and then trying it on DC. The factory default on a decoder normally is to allow DC operation. If it runs normally on DC, but not on DCC, then there is a setting or other issue with the decoder.
Some decoders have a brake that's turned on with a function button and stays on until you turn it off. However, doing a factory reset should eliminate that.
After doing the reset, does the engine run on ID 03 / 0003? If you're doing the reset but then changing the decoder ID before testing it, it could be that ID number is part of a consist which is blocking the engine from running normally.

I'm not a guru, but I would start by disabling the DC enable function. The default might be in dual mode, and if you are not running in DC, it can cause weird engine behaviors in DCC mode.

If you did a factory reset using an NCE and the NCE's reset, it may not work.

Does it happen after the loco was selected?
This happened on my club layout, and we discovered it was the controllers causing this. We sent them back to tonys train, and we got the most recent nce hand held
