SoundTraxx and Bachmann Spectrum
Posted by DigitalGriffin on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 11:04 AM
I'm considering installing a SoundTraxx decoder into the tender of my Bachmann Spectrum DCC Ready C&O 4-8-2 Heavy.

According to Soundtraxx's website, the kit they offer should work with a little modification. Anybody know what modifications these are?

I've heard/seen reports where people had to cut/solder resistors & caps even though the Bachmann is labeled DCC ready. Is this true? And where did you find the directions for this?

~Thanks

The biggest problem is that the decoder socket in the Bachmann Heavy Mountain is offset to one side, so the SoundTraxx decoder won't plug directly into it without moving the Bachmann circuit board and performing some minor changes to lengthen a couple of the wires soldered to the Bachmann circuit board. The SoundTraxx decoder was designed to fit into the first release of the Bachmann Mountain, and Bachmann changed their circuit board when they produced the larger tender that is attached to the Heavy.
