Can't find any recent information on it. Looks like it died out?

-ha! Yes! I always wondered if they did that on purpose. Thought it should be called BRING a train to work day!

The people that work for me have enough doubts about me already, I am not sure what bringing a model train to work would accomplish.

.

I have toyed with the idea of getting a small display case for my more publicly appreciated items, billboard reefers, brass locomotives, etc.

.

I travel so much now that I am probably not going to.

That idea might have ended.  Sad.  I get the shame some people feel from having a toy train at work.  Places of employment would much prefer having people suffer burnout than having others talk about a hobby they enjoy.

I think a lot of it goes with current corporate culture too.  Those 'open environment' trainwreck designs are awful, and 9 times out of 10 also include an "oh, and you can't have anything personal at your workstation, you're here to work, not look at a little dancing flower." clause that makes it even more depressing to be there.

That being said, I have an office, and every day is "look at that pre-war O-27 locomotive".  (Although, it does look kinda silly on the modern plastic-base track ... but I didn't want to deal with potentially scratching the table with the old formed metal ties).

ON the same topic, NAtional model railroad month seams to have died out too.

A realist sees a frieght train

An engineer sees three idiots standing on the tracks stairing blankly in space

I'd love to take a train to work but there are 2 problems- I'm now retired and there are no trains locally to take! Here in Tampa-St Pete I have been hearing about light rail since I moved down here in the 1980s- and every few elections another mass transit train proposal gets a lot if mention but no action. Meanwhile back home in the Twin Cities, a light rail system was designed and built-and keeps on growing. Just like metro Chicago , apartments and park and ride facilities are built at the farther suburban rail locations so daily commuting by train is now a fact if life for many. A whole new generation of kids up there now know what train travel is and hopefully it will inspire some if them to become model railroaders!

What I can't figure out is why those single unit Budd RDC cars were not more popular back when I was a kid- easy to use on existing rail infrastructure, able to carry significant daily passenger volume and easy to deploy in a metro or rural area. Had that been the case, I would have loved to hop on one every day if fir no other reason than the ride itself!

Ok now I'm confused, are you supposed to ride a train to work or take a model train with you to display at work? Dunce

As usual wanna-be commedians here.  Enjoying yourself there Cederwood?  Pirate

Well, taking a model train to work might be ok if you work in a cubical farm, but I'm not taking any of my models to one of my construction jobs.......
