Yet another taking apart question
Posted by bearman on Saturday, June 30, 2018 12:11 PM

I have a Walthers Mainline HO Bay Window Caboose which has to have the original couplers replaced.  Whenever I replace couplers, I like to pull the shell and add the weights.  So, I removed the trucks, and removed the clip that holds the couplers in the gear box, which clip is another story.  Does anyone know if there are any tabs that hold the shell on to the bottom, or is gentle brute strenght the only thing that is necessary to pry apart the shell walls.?

Do you have the box and instructions that it came in?

The instructions should say how the couplers come off.

I think he figured the couplers out, he is asking about the body.

Yes, Henry, I have the couplers figured out.  As for the box and instructions, nope, tossed a long time ago.

I believe there are four plastic type clips molded into the bottom frame that attach to the inside sides of the shell (tight fit) You should be able to see them from the bottom sides of the frame......they are below the side end windows and the shell should have little indents where they are. A Xacto #17 chizel blade and Micro-brushes with the used tips cut off works perfect for that kind of job!

Good Luck! Big Smile
