Hello one and all. I was just curious to see when you guys operate your trains. I find that the best time for me is in the wee hours of the morning, say for example 3:00am or there abouts. It's nice and quiet and I can have my fun without being bothered by anything. I usually spend at least an hour or two running trains or working on the layout but after that I get bored and move on to something else.
Models by day, real ones at night.

I like this time schedule.
Summer: Early morning when the sun begins to shine in the room.
Winter: Mid-afternoon for the best nature light..
I prefer using natural light instead of artificial light.

Work before pleasure, so my answer is week nights or weekends.
normal week day
6- 6:30am operate
4 to 5:30pm work in train room
11 to 11:40pm operate
I don’t watch television until 5:30pm and then national news only Till supper. After supper I will have the NHL network on in the cave right outside the trainroom. There is no television in the train room but my IPod has over 10,000 songs on it. I have a great Papermill I like to switch on. The times are not absolutes, but I seem to spend 3-4 hours each weekday in there Even when sick. Rarely do I go 48 hours without running a train unless we are out of town. I have often run trains from3-4am when unable to sleep but no music then.

I'm in the same hectic place as South Penn. Retired, inside because of weather, ( except when the kid stops by and drags me out ice fishing with his buddies) winter is my official model railroad season.
It's all day, doing modeling projects, running trains, doing some research on the computer, chiming in on here, and a couple of others.
When the wifey gets home from a day at work, (bless her heart) I have dinner ready, we sit, have a cocktail, watch tv, listen to music, talk, (usually all at once), and when she heads up to bed, I'm back in the basement! till about 11 ish, then it's a shower and bed. Start all over again the next day.
I know, it's rough, and sometimes I wonder how I do it. I guess it's a strong will and determination.

I'm in the middle of making scenery, so I usually do that in the afternoon light if possible. I spend perhaps and hour, sometimes two, and then spend the late afternoon and evening with the missus. I will often go for a run just prior to supper.
While the latest batch of goop is hardening and drying, I sometimes watch a train run, or I may fiddle with a niggling problem. Or lube a locomotive that, by this date, hasn't run or been lubed since about 2013/14.
Late at night, back to the train room to see how the firming is going, and I'll often spray diluted wood glue over the still-wet goop just placed, and sprinkle at least two different colours and sizes of ground foam/flocking. I often mix and slather one more batch of goop so that it sets while I sleep. If I'm up to it, there's always another three feet of double main needing ballast, so I might as well make the dehumidifier dry that at the same time as the two batches of goop.
It's rare I'm in bed prior to 12:30.
Since last September I haven't played with my trains. Not by my luck of trying.
I usually played around early afternoon around 10-11 and evening 6-8 ( if I'm lucky ). For an hour or two.
