There are several categories of reliability: <br /> <br />Takes a lickin' but keeps on ticking reliability: Athearn Blue Box followed closely by Mantua. I've had blue boxes which have taken the dive from the layout to the basement floor that kept on running and no one was the wiser. Mantua's are powerful. <br /> <br />Smooth running at low speeds: Atlas. (And they look good doing it.)
