Brass Trains Web site - Updated, Very Useful For Those With Brass Locomotives or Rolling Stock

I do not know when the Brass Trains web site was updated but the site is a must for anyone that has any brass in their model railroad roster and would like to keep track of it.

My layout is primarily steam and early diesel with about 70% brass and 30% other locomotives. I now have an up to date list of all of my brass items should I require it.

The BrassTrains web site allows you to keep track of all of your brass model railroad engines and rolling stock.  You can keep a great up to date roster which would be ideal to keep track not only of the particulars of your brass collection but also of the value.  Would also be very useful to provide to your insurance company as well as a way to liquidate your collection by your heirs.

It used to be the roster was a look only, but the site now allows you to post your own pictures as well as any details you might want to add to the description of the item.  You can download your entire roster as well.

Hmmmmm.  I hope that the site has enough security to prevent everyone else from knowing who you are and where you live.  Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I'm leary about putting anything personal or valuable on internet web sites.

You are not posting so that others can see your roster on the web. There is the usual security such as a User Name and Password for each account.  Other than my e-mail address I have never had to give my address.

The price of older brass is quite interesting, as would be expected those large runs with lots of locomotives made are certainly worth less than those locomotives made in short runs.

Certain road names like Great Northern which was one road name that PFM certainly made larger runs for are now valued a lot less for most locomotives than the smaller runs of Canadian Steamers such as CPR and CNR. Glad I started collecting the Canadian steamers as I could not afford some of the engines I now have if I had to pay the current values.

Either way, i am a bit shocked with the overall value of my brass steam roster. Will have to make sure a list is given to my Trustee to pass on to my heirs. Would not want them to have a garage sale with my more valueable brass, then again I guess I would not really care.

They keep improving it over time.  They have a wealth of catalogue info. on there as well.  Just search models made for your favorite railroads...very helpful!
