Ideas for modeling an RS-18u in HO
Posted by MaximusV on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 3:26 PM

I am currently trying to find the best way to model an MLW RS-18u like the ones currently running on the Adirondack Scenic RR. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've liked this build on Diesel Detailer for a while.  He uses an Atlas Trainman RS36 with some Kaslo shops parts.  You could probably scratchbuild the cab, etc... if you can't find Kaslo parts.

The DD is a good place for this type of project.  Just for fun, I Googled it and found lots of pics, of prototypes and model builds.

Just be careful.  Spend too much time on there and you'll want to do all the builds!

Just Google RS18u, you'll see all you want.

And Bundy, yea, I've been known to get inspired on that site a time or two Laugh

An MLW RS-18 rebuilt and upgraded by Canadian Pacific, hence the "u" in the model description.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong . Didn't Klasko Shops make a HO RS-18u at one point in resin ?

They did, altough it's not shown on their website.  The cab and other detail parts on shown as in stock, so you could order those.

Thank you Bundy74 . Sure would be nice if they'd release the whole shell in kit form.

I've been drooling over Klasko's M-420 kit.

Love those Alcos and MLW locomotives. Thanks again for the link.

Thanks for the info and the website. I've been there but I had only seen the post about starting with an Atlas RS-11. Good to know that there are other starting points.
