Santa Fe blue goose
Posted by DAVID FORTNEY on Saturday, November 26, 2016 4:01 PM

one of my favorite engines was the blue goose of the Santa Fe. Now we all know that never painted any passenger cars in the blue goose scheme or did they?

A freind of the family who worked for the Santa Fe for over 45 years swears up and down that he saw at least two passenger cars painted in the blue goose scheme. I have searched and searched for a picture of those painted passenger cars with out ever finding one.

Anybody ever hear about this? Could it they did paint a few as a publicity stunt but never put them in regular service?

Nothing like the Rivarossi set which was nothing more than their generic passenger cars painted to match the Blue Goose. It made for a nice looking if very unprototypical train.

I have seen these cars but never in color. Does anybody have a color picture you can post?

I have the Rivarossi cars and yes they are very nice and really look great with the blue goose engine.

I think Rivarossi or Walthers should consider releasing a brand new run of those "swaying pendulum cars" Santa Fe, CBQ, and Great Northen all sell well, So how about it?

You mentioned that two Santa Fe passenger cars were thought to have been painted in the blue goose paint scheme.

While ATSF only purchased one Pendulum car to test the new technology, what appears to be an articulated pair of plywood prototypes of this car were tested on the Santa Fe (presumably before production of #1100).  See http://streamlinermemories.info/?p=637 and click on the image of this pair of cars to see a May 20, 1040 Life magazine article about this two-car prototype.
