Ulrich Models Hobby Store
Posted by richhotrain on Sunday, November 20, 2016 10:17 AM

I see that Ulrich Models in Longmont CO is closing down its web site and, presumably its hobby shop. That is too bad.  I have made several purchases from them, and they have been an excellent source of LED lighting controls.

Does anyone have any additional information on the closure?

Sound pretty clear that they are closing the store.

"We will be posting some of our items on eBay once we close. Resistors boards and other items from left over inventory will be listed. We probably will open an eBay store. Check back for more information later,

"Thank you to all our customers over the years. We have always tried to give premium service to all. However, the economics of this business are too challenging and we made the tough decision to close down."

Well, the full blurb at their website is here:

http://www.ulrichmodels.biz/

Sounds like they decided it wasn't worth the effort any longer.

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

The web site notice was what initially caught my attention. But, it is not clear from the web site notice whether the closure is limited to only the web site or the hobby store as well.

Here is the text of the web site notice:

The Ulrich Models Website will be closed at 18:00 on 11/23/2016. It will not reopen.
If you have any questions on orders or other things, email us at sales@ulrichmodels.com or call 1-877-600-8657.

Google Earth reveals that the physical address given on their web site is a private residence in a subdivision. The web site further states "Ulrich Models is an online hobby store."

Seems to me they don't have a brick and mortar store, so I read it as they are completely shutting down until they open an eBay store, if they decide that is what they are going to do.

I've dealt with Ulrich Models several times over the past few years and have always been very happy with their service.  A few months back I was purchasing a decoder from them when I read the notification on their website.  It was a bit unclear to me whether they would completely shut down operation, or whether they were limiting focus on just decoders and LEDs.  I'm pleased with the prospect that they might be opening an eBay store in the near future.
