Brick and mortar hobby stores that also sell online
Posted by willy6 on Thursday, August 4, 2016 5:13 PM

Being i'm not close enough to any big brick and mortar hobby stores that sell online (i.e. MB Klein, Caboose, Walthers, etc.), are the prices in the store the same as online?

Being old is when you didn't loose it, it's that you just can't remember where you put it.

I can only speak to MB Klein.  Their warehouse is very much bigger than the store, so if you want something not on display, you go to a bank of computers that is linked to their website and search for the part number for what you want.  They charge you the internet price.

BUT I do get emails from time to time: selected (Atlas) products 25% off enter code Atlas25.  I do not know how they handle that in store.

The same goes for Trainworld/Trainland in New York; the store prices are the same as the on-line advertised price.

All the best.

Yep, MBK seems to be good in that way.  In store prices same as online.  I usually visit that store in person when I'm in town for the Timonium show.  The rest of the time I mail order from them.

I just got a Bachmann loco from MBKlein, it had a 10% off using a code on their web site.. I ordered on the phone and the rep told me that they honor all prices and $ off regardless of how you purchase the product.

MBK: I have ordered and paid for items online and picked them up at the store. Nice if you are going to a train show at the fair grounds which is only a couple of minutes away. For me it justifies the 1 hour drive.

EngineHouse Services in Green Bay, A 50 mile trip oneway, has better prices on line then in store. Makes no sence to me.I feel as if they don't want me in the store.

The charge for shipping is less then my cost to drive there.  I try to line up orders with the wife's Dr appointments, better price and no shipping.

I called in an order, and was charged store price, must order on line toget disc.

There are some items I won;t buy without seeing it,so I drive there look the item over, and have to decide should I buy it while i'm here,or return home and order it on line

I live in Utah where our local shops are fading fast, I've bought from Caboose, MBK, Wholesale Trains and Walthers. One of the few remaining shops here, MRS hobby gives 20 to 30% off retail and their online store Hobby-On gives 30 to 35% off. If you become a member, (free) you can save even more.

I purchased walking in all my ME turnouts and code 70 rail from Hiawatha Hobbies in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. https://hiawathahobbies.3dcartstores.com/crm.asp?action=contactus

The prices at the time matched their internet site and was the best pricing I found on-line. I have since started purchasing some Cornerstone structures from them as the shipping prices were much cheaper then Walthers which is only a few miles away. When we travel by I do stop in and what I have been buying in store has matched their prices on the internet. But, if you buy on-line does it really matter what the in-store price will be?  Just asking.

Walthers does have showroom hours Wed. to Saturday and I have found a few deals there walking in.

Have a great day
