XTrackCAD help
Posted by Goosetown on Thursday, March 10, 2016 7:57 PM

I've played with the Atlas track planner and got the hang of that but I wanted layers, structures, scenery, and watch a train run on the rails so today I downloaded and copied (well, had to re-engineer the whole plan) the Atlas plan to XTrack.

Took most of the day, but I have my track layed once I read the "wiki" guide on their web page.

There isn't much info on how to add an engine or cars to the car inventory.  Anyone know how?

Once I get some stock rolling, then I will ask the next question.  Even printing the layout was a challenge Confused

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I don't know what version you downloaded, but I'll share some screen shots of how I do mine...

Step 1 - Click the Run Trains button:

Step 2 - click Manage:

Step 3 - choose Car Inventory:

Step 4 - on the Car Inventory dialog, click Add:

Step 5 - for Manufacturer, choose Custom:

Step 6 - for Prototypr, clicke the down arrow and choose Diesel Loco:

Step 7 - choose your desired loco model from the drop-down list (a GP9 in this example):

Step 8 - assign the new loco a number:

Step 9 - click the Add button on the New HO Scale Car dialog, and the newly-created loco should appear in the Car Inventory list:

Step 10 - Click the Close button on the New HO Scale Car dialog:

Step 11 - close the Car Inventory dialog:

Step 12 - locate the icon for your newly-added loco (In your case, it should be the only one there)...

Step 13 - drag and drop the loco onto the track:

Step 14 - your loco number should now appear in the Train Control dialog:

Step 15 - click and move the slider control upward and it should start moving:

All the above steps assume that you've downloaded the necessary car/locomotive template files.  This is how it works on my version - YMMV, good luck!

It's V 4-2.3a

When I click on the train it says:  "No cars are defined for the current scale, do you want to use the Car Inventory Dialog".  I click Yes and I get an empty inventory sheet and I have no clue how to get a virtual inventory.

I also realized that I really need a screen shot program.  That would make explanations so much easier.

OK, a brain cell tried to help.  I thought about the "Preferences" area and roamed around a couple minutes.  I don't see a locomotive or stock section...  but I bet that has something to do with my problem.

You probably have a much newer version than I do - sorry I can't help you with that.  It's already past midnight in my time zone, I need to get some sleep! Hopefully somebody with more experience will chime in here Huh?...

I have XTrackCAD  4.2.2

In the FILE drop down, ckick on Parameter Files to open the "Parameter Files" box

Click "Browse button

Scroll down and click "protoam.xtp"  This will add  "North Americam Prototypes" to the box.

Click "Run Trains"   "No cars..."  Click "YES' button to open "Car Inventory"

Click "ADD" button.  Thi will open the box where cars can be entered into the inventory.

Note there are also a "protosteam" Parameter  for steam locomotives and an "eu" Parameter for European equipment.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.
