I have to be honest here. I think this video is seriously inferior to the original promotional video.
I'm absolutely not trying to criticise Miniatur Wunderland in any way. It is an incredible accomplishment. However, when it comes to this video I have to say that several things really annoyed me:
- First, the limited focal depth of many of the shots was just simply frustrating. I wanted to see the rest of the details in the scene but I couldn't.
- Second, many of the shots were of very small sections of the individual scenes. I wanted to see the whole scene, not bits of it. Again, very frustrating. The night scene of the airplane taking off was significantly under exposed.
- Third, the video didn't show nearly enough detail about how things were made. For example, they talked about how many lights went into some of the vehicles and how long it took but they didn't show how it was done. I will admit that as a modeler I am probably more interested in those sorts of details than most of the 'public' would be, but I doubt that anyone's eyes would glaze over if some of the construction details were shown.
- The video was far too long. After about five minutes I felt that I had to 'hang in there' to watch more of it just to see if any of the rest of the video would be more inspiring. It really wasn't.
Again, I'm comparing this new video with the previous one, and I am not being critical of Miniatur Wunderland itself.
I hope you are not offended Ulrich. This was not a personal attack on you in any way. Thank you for posting the video. I just felt that I had to be truthful about my impressions of it.

Dave - there is always room for improvement!
I found some of the close-up shots quite nice, as they offered views you don´t see as a visitor. I´ll be definitively going there in Fall, when they open the new Italy section, which will be awesome from what I have seen in MW´s construction blog.

I have seen the Google Streetview images. I thought the use of the technology was quite interesting.
I guess I'm of the view that if it is a big layout then I want to see big scenes. Perhaps I'm being a little narrow minded.
Anyhow, the bottom line is that if I ever get to visit Germany then Hamburg will be on the itinerary, primarily of course to see MW.

That doesn´t do justice to one of the nicest city in the world - there is still the wonderful gauge 1 layout in the Hamburg Museum

Speaking of vacations, Dianne and I have booked ourselves into the Grizzly Bear Lodge in northern British Columbia for a few days in August of this year. We are really looking forward to that!
