Check out this guys auctions, especially the really big lots of up to 100 cars. I'm not sure how good a deal that is considering that they won't tell you what kind of cars you are getting, but it sure is intersting. BTW, be sure to scroll down and see his other blocks of cars.

Interesting, although I doubt I'd buy, especially if there are no descriptions of what you're getting- it's not a deal if you don't need it.

Nobody bid on the big one. Not even a shop. Frankly, the deals aren't all that great.

No, the price on his lots is too high. He wants over $6 each. I get most of my Athearns for $3-4 each, and only have to pay above $5 for 86 footers. Thats the problem with e-bay though. Too many people bidding that don't know what things are worth.

Well, for one thing, this bozo has a minimum bid of $329.00 on a lot of 50 Athearn blue box kits. That's over $6/each. No one in their right mind will bid on them. I've checked his other items. For the most part, he's overpriced on his starting bids.

If the stuff was priced right, to get a mystery train would be something to consider. But at 6 a car (not counting shipping) , A) you need to know what you're buying, and B) I think if I was going to drop $400 on a group of cars, I'd buy a bunch of pre-built genesis's and P2K's!

Wasn't sure what you meant until I cut/pasted and enlarged. That looks to be quite the "warp" in the frame or is it just warp drive?

People go to eBay for bargains or hard to find items. As others have noted, I don't see $6.00 for Athearn cars as being a bargain. Now if his starting price had been around $3.00 per car, I'm sure there would have been some bids.

It's the same when I cruise local flea markets. If something is offered for near list price, I'll pass; I'd rather buy it retail with their return policies. If it's dirt cheap, sometimes I'll buy it, figuring if it doesn't work then I'm not out much.

You have to know what something is worth before you bid for it on ebay. I've gotten some great deals. I've also watched in amazement as folks run up the price on items that aren't worth any where near what the winning bidders end up paying. Like my folks always told me: "everything in moderation."

You HAVE to check on the shipping costs before bidding on anything on EBAY, what might look a bargain may turn out an expensive mistake, i buy from the US and ship to the UK so you have to be on the ball. like sombody allready said if it's a rare item or you can't get it anywhere else the shipping isn't an issue

It looks pricey to us here, but look at what some of our fellow modelers in Australia pay for some of that stuff.

That is very true about shipping. Especially with rolling stock. The cost to ship just one car can double the cost!

Say, spread the news, just where are you guys buying kits or ready made cars for $3.00. I would be a little skeptical buying a $3.00 boxcar, I would think you would end up with a $3.00 boxcar. Wait until the new cars (no more kits) hit the market from the factories that shifted all production to China, hang on. You will certainly be paying more than $6.00 per car. With all the new technology, where are the North American manufacturers, talk about a big market. 99% of cars are spit out of a molding machine by the thousands for a penny each.

Just checked out trains and treasures, Athearn boxcars were $29.00--$16.50 and $15.00. that's a long way from $2 to $4.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that these are store prices only -- not available on their Web site, because this sale stock is consignments from a person in Tucson who is having to sell everything.

Just checked this site, the seller is now describing all the units for sale, if they sell for @$6.00, some of the cars are now not available and probably will not be in the future, if you can get the exact model you want for this price it seems o.k. Also on ebay are 2 or 3 other sellers selling huge amounts of roundhouse kits, Has someone out discovered a huge warehouse full of these "antiques" and they are now just appearing, how many of these things still exist out there and where are they coming from??? any answers???
