Santa brought me a new 13.5' transitional kayak from Current Designs. Wrong time of year!
I've got to get back into my trains!!
Well, it isn't here yet and probably won't be here until mid-January, but I have an Austrian Railways (OBB) "Railjet" passenger set coming in through an importer in Chicago. You see, occasionally I turn my Sierra Nevada mountains into the western Austrian Arlberg Alps (I "imagine" the caternary, of course) and get out my Roco european trains--those Austrian "crocodile" electrics are something else to watch, even in HO scale. And since I'll be spending most of the coming summer in Salzburg, Innsbruck and environs, I thought I'd invest in the country's prime high-speed train. They're handsome devils, and the paint scheme (red, orange and black) reminds me a little of the SP "Daylights."

Had to look those up, Tom, and they are indeed quite handsome.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
I don't celebrate X-mass (do enjoy the Eight Crazy Nights!). While nothing from Santa, I did get to enjoy helping the kids put together Legos and train puzzles.
Well, I managed to finally snare an ExactRail MILW 40' Rib Side "Route of the Hiawathas" boxcar on eBay. I've been looking for one - off and on - for over 2 years now and found it for roughly MSRP. (I was the only bidder.) I should receive it in the mail about the same time my Tangent 6,000 gal. 3-compartment tank car shows up. Two handsome additions to my freight car roster.
I got this awesome BLI Santa Fe 3751 locomotive. Here is a short video of it running on our home layout. Our layout is DC. I can't wait to get it to our DCC club and REALLY turn in loose!

My wife and I buy our own things we like during the year and turn them over to each other to give later for birthdays, Christmas and other events we invent.
This Christmas I received a Walthers RDC, a Mehano 4-8-2 (sure wish I could find an instruction sheet so I could figure out where the little parts go), a Rock Island sleeper, a Rock Island commuter coach, a B&O express car, a couple of City Classic building kits, a Dairy Queen kit and a few smaller items.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
I got a good amount of money. When my LHS is open again(he is down south visiting family for Christmas), I will spend it on stuff for my building of Chicago. Trying to figure out some of the details, but Chicago is progressing nicely. It will be at the Lena train show in February.
My wife got me a new radio for the train room so I can listen to John Sterling and (God help us) Suzyn Waldman announce Yankees losses. I also got money and a gift card, as well as a copy of the C&O Color Guide of Freight & Passenger Equipment.
HO-Velo Well, guess Santa found out I was naughty, but my son gave me a Fox Valley box car that he weathered. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night, regards, Peter

thats some great weathering! He's really talented.
Only train related item I got was a t-shirt saying "Grampa Bill still plays with trains" with a picture of a steam train on it. I did get a new car though, so I can go to and from the LHS in style anyway....
LHS had a boxing week sell so I picked up a Bachmann spectrum 2-10-0 and decoder.

Don't Ever Give Up
Oh Bob, after an hour fussing with a balky sound decoder, that's exactly what I needed!
My wife gave me a nice promaster camera tripod and carry bag. I do a fair amount of rail photography around/near Donner Pass and my old tripod just wasn't cuttin' it with my DSLR. The new tripod is rock solid (I've already tried it near Colfax and Rocky Point) and is less then 4 pounds (a plus when you're hiking in the backcountry and need to pack in your gear).

I got the Bachmann DDA40X, but I've only seen it move about 3 inches, I sadly don't have my layout to the point where there's track on it yet :(

Modeling Pre-WP merger UP (1974-81)
Santa ended up getting me a gift card for the ModelTrainStuff website. I'm going to use it to order an NCE PowerCab.
Bob, you are so blessed to be able to spend that kind of time with your grandson. And, God bless you for rescueing him from such a toxic environment and bringing him into a loving one. You may very well have saved his life.
So, for Christmas, my 30 year old son and his girlfriend treated me to a visit to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. And, if that wasn't enough, he gave me a CD of railroad songs "Singing Rails". by Wayne Erbsen, along with a book of Wayne's, "Railroadin' Songs, Jokes & Stories". On top of that, he gave me a 2015 GN pictorial calander!
Probably the best gift of all was the quality time I was able to spend in Denver with all of my four adult children, as well as with my brother and his wife. All in all a very good Christmas!
