Need some N gauge advice
Posted by steveiow on Monday, November 23, 2015 5:47 AM

A local 2nd hand shop near here I live has for sale a Lifelike Diesel Charger train set for the equivilent of $50.

Is this a good buy?

Being an HO modeller I know nothing about N.

Thanks

Steve

Hi, I've dabbled in N years ago but not of late.   Lifelike from a 2nd hand shop tells me this is likely fairly old.  My instinct is its too much money and it may not be a good product.   BUT, others will likely know more about it...........

ENJOY  !

Hi again,

I just looked up the set and have second thoughts.   If you are buying that for a newbie/youngster, it could be a good deal.   It has "everything" that will possibly ignite the MR spark and lead to a dedicated MR.   If not, you didn't lose much $.

ENJOY  !

Well, $ 50 may not appear to be much, but when it´s wasted on something with doubtful quality, It can be a lot.

I took a look at the set and it does not look convincing to me, nor is the reputation of early LifeLike train sets.

Steve,No..You do not want that set since its not 'good' by any standard.

Life Like did produce some quility train sets came with their better line of locomotives like the GP18 and GP20. Their better line of locomotives will have ' Made in China' on the box.

Here is the best N Scale  research.
