Keep Alive KA-2 Immediately Starts Loco
Posted by Docjmp on Sunday, November 22, 2015 2:45 PM

Hi Everyone,

This is my first project with installing capacitors. I'm doing this to get my engines through the few spots where they would stall. When I first installed it, everything worked fine. I fired up the engine and it responded as normal and powered through all of the problem spots. Then, I did something to reset CV 8 and CV 32. Since then, the engine starts immediately when I place it one the tracks that are powered. Am I now running in DC instead of DCC as I was before changing the CV settings? If so, how do I return to DCC. I have an NCE Power Cab.

Thanks.

Thanks, David. I just tried that, but no change. There is power to the engine, but it's not responding to any DCC commands, I.e. It won't move, no lights, horn, etc.

If you reset CV8, it's back to the factory default two digit address of 3. Did you try that ?

Something else as well .... depending on your system, you may have to temporarily disconnect the stay alive module in order to do any programming. This is because the capacitor is attempting to power the decoder while it is on the program track preventing your system from being able to program.

Whenever I install a stay alive module for customers, I always install a micro slide switch on the bottom of the engine to cut out the capacitor for programming.

Mark.
