Gidday All, Last WPF HOVelo Peter made the comment “handrail wrestling contest”. To be perfectly honest I hadn’t thought of my efforts in quite that light but it is appropriate. There has been a bit of “muttering” under the breath but all in all I’m pleased with the progress. Finding out I needed to make another 54 stanchions shows that I’m not quantity surveyor material.Sigh

Bear!

I'll say it again. The railings are looking really good. I think you are in the same place as I am with the McKeen Motor Car - to heck with what it takes, the work is very rewarding!

I just finished populating the passenger seats on the motor car. I used 1:100 figures because they are better proportioned to the size of the windows than the HO figures are when compared to a photo of the prototype with people on board. I just wish the Chinese would paint their figures with more realistic clothing colours. Its not a huge issue for the McKeen car because all you can really see are the heads and upper torsos, but for pete's sake China, get with the North American clothing colours!

Dave

OOPS! Just noticed that I have a drunk lady in the left rear seat. Better call the cops!Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Good morning from sunny Northeast Ohio!

Bear, great work on that car ferry, like I said I have all the Wabash Cars that go on that puppy.

Dave, you are more daring than I am with that build on the McKeen Car, great looking model.

Nothing finished this week, the Stongsville Historical Society has their Harvest Festival this weekend, and since our club is located there we will be open for viewing! I will be taking my PRR Ore Train for viewing and here are a couple of pictures of it on the layout.

Power is provided by Stewart C628 & C630 with added details like lift rings, grabs, antenna's and finished with diesel decals from Microscale. the 36 ore cars are all Stewart/Bowser G39/G39A cars with ore loads by Dan Pikulski followed by a Bowser N5 caboose.

Thanks for looking!

Rick J

Thanks, Bear, for starting this weekend´s WPF thread!

My contribution is still rather humble, compared to the art work presented here.

My "train table" is now finished and I set up some temporary track, just to be able to run a train now and then.

It is still a long way until my layout shows any resemblance to my plan:

Feeling a little under the weather this morning.....caught a darn cold somewhere....probably My fat Son...LOL.

Bear, Dave, Rick and glad to see You got something to keep You busy Ulrich....all great works in progress.

I have already started back working on the layout projects that have been on hold, for a couple months....but I'm happy to say, what I have done turned out pretty good. Thought I would share some pic's of the RC 1/14 scale truck/trailer that I had redone...still rolling up My Grandson's tongue and getting His eyes back in their sockets after He saw it.....Gentlemen...You will be looking at 1100 hundred $$ worth of patience...LOL.

Take Care, All! Big Smile

Bear,

I think you've blown right by Really Great Stuff and into the Spectacular! That ferry is looking awesome.Bow

Dave,

The McKeen is like a steampunk airliner. I think that lady is just reaching for her barfy bagWink

Rick,

Big-time RRing going on there. Hoping you get a big crowd.

Ulrich,

Hey, that's a good start, you're not that far away from the artistic impression. NG electrics! You can't go wrongBig Smile

Frank,

I think the Illinois Liquor Control Board wants to have a word with you about those excessively large serving sizes...

Lots of little projects this week, as the lull between ops sessions ends next Thursday, Oct 1 [drop me a line if you're in the area and want to get in on the operating fun].

The luxury cruise train (equipped with Swiss and Austrian rolling stock), the San Juan Zephyr, upon arrival in Silverton.

This time, it's an EPA charter with an inspection team to check on the cleanup from the big Whoopsie that turned the Animas yellow all the way to Durango and beyond. We prevailed on a reporter traveling with them to catch this shot from the river looking up at the North Star Mill.

Using 1/87 dynamite, the crews up on the Cascade Branch managed to remove part of a sidehill to make space for the Camp 10 shelter, as well as a spot for the loader to operate in. Still needs lots of detail, etc, but at least there's a place for passengers to wait and to take incoming freight. If something heavy comes along, the loader can swing 'round and lift it onto the platform.

The newly added second spur at Webber Wholesale is still generating increased traffic.

Finally, a layout level view of the additions to the Silverton Yard. Yeah, that guardrail on the right is a bit oversized, but it a LONG way to the floor thereClown

Really good stuff from everyone, esp. Bear's ferry. A K4s hands over a local to an E8.

Bear - Thanks for starting off WPF. Your ferry is coming along well. Tedium is its middle name at this point.

Dave - The motor car is getting there. I second your comment on the 1:100 figures.

Rick J - Great to see something different. Love the European trains.

Mike - Some great scenes. Love the Swiss passenger train.

Grampy - Great photo as usual.

Terry - I don't know where you find the patience.

Its been quiet on the Black River Valley RR lately. Here is another from the BRVRR website archives inspired by Grampy's photo:

A Pennsylvania freight passes on the westbound mainline as NYC RDC #53 boards passengers at Berea Station.

Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.

Just finished the 3rd of 4 plastic Big Boy models I picked up on Ebay. They are fun to finish and weather and it gives me practice before doing my Athearn Genesis Big Boy.

rs2mike;

Yeah, I use Microscale decals, the ones in the kit are ususally no good. Here's another one I built a couple of years ago that I was going to put in my scrap/recycly yard, but eventually sold it.

Bear,  Thanks for gettin' another one started, WPF that is.  Appears you'll have those handrails down for the three count soon.

Always look forward to WPF, and as usual loads of interesting fun seeing all the quality high-gear creativity going on.

Completed a stub-end staging/fiddle yard couple days ago and hoping to give it a bit of a shake-down this weekend.

Thanks to all and regards,  Peter

Heck I had a reply to everyone typed out and in the process of transferring it, lost the lot!!!!!Bang Head Bang Head Angry I’ll blame the hour of sleep I lost last night due to the start of daylight saving!!!!!Sleep
What I will say is thanks for the kind remarks regarding my ferry progress, but I do consider myself as a "Good Enough Modeller, and I can say with great certainty that my next project will be definitely a lot simpler.
I shall also add that while things have been a little quiet in Forumland, who needs quantity when we’ve got the variety of quality, as shown above.
Thanks to everyone for sharing.Bow
Cheers, the Bear.Smile

It's not much of a picture, but I will post up a shot of the new begining.  The room is 99% ready (still need some insulation in the ceiling) but I cant help but start on the benchwork.

Hobbez,

Not huge, but it does looks like a generous stretch of real estate, even in O scale.

Playing with my video camera I made a trailer for my youtube page. It was a lot of work for a 2 minute video especially having to take all the video twice because what the side screen displays  is different in what the camera actually takes in frame size, but hey I learned something today haha.
