Accessories for freelanced road
Posted by KBCpresident on Monday, August 31, 2015 8:54 AM

I have recently created a freelanced roadname and would like to accesorize the locomotives. I'm not incredibly concerned with it being 100% "prototypical." I'd like to it be realistic, but if a few details are implausible I call creative licence Smile Therefor whether a small road would have a light package like this isn't my conern, I want the model to have accesroies that tie into the company's culture and give it a unique feel.

The railroad operates in the pacific northwest (the inspiration is the portland metro area) So far this is my idea:

-The usuals (grab irons, lift rings, etc.)

-A single red gyrolight mounted on front and rear

-An orange rotating beacon

-A hood-mounted bell.

-Red marker lights, front and rear

Is there any other details that a NW road might want? Would A/C be necesary in a temporate climate like Oregon's? would it make any sense to off-center the beacon so that it is not blocked out by the glare of the headlight, or would that inhibit visibility?

Any ideas would be welcome, but no init-picking please Smile

Cheers

You don't mention an operating era, but if it's present-day or fairly recent, you may need to consider the addition of ditch lights (I'm assuming you're using working lights).  Otherwise, the light package seems plausible enough, although the red markers would be used only if the locomotive were running light on the mainline or being used as a pusher, and in both cases, only those on the trailing end would be illuminated.
It's your railroad, so if you want to add a/c, no reason not to.
