"E-Cigs" and smoke units?
Posted by wobblinwheel on Sunday, August 23, 2015 2:30 AM

I've recently tried out a couple of "E-cigs" or electronic cigarettes in an attempt to quit smoking. It's working so far! It didn't take long for the old "light bulb" to go off in my head.....[some of] these things are TINY, and put out TONS of "smoke" (vapor)! Wouldn't this be an interesting concept for smoke units for model steam locomotives? The "smoke" emitted seems to be nothing more than water vapor, which seems to have almost NO odor. No oily mess, either! Of course, it would have to be fan-driven, but they've figured that out, already. One of the devices I bought came with a bottle of "juice" that is nearly honey-thick and smokes like CRAZY. Wonder what it would do in a smoke unit?? Anybody tried it? Seems kind of interesting to me. I'm scared to try it on my EXPENSIVE BLI locos, but maybe one of you guys is brave enough to try it? Go ahead, let us know what happens. I'm curious...... One more thing, the "heating coil" seems to require very little current to operate (battery), and the vapor seems pretty cool, as compared to what comes out of a smoke unit. The unit itself to not even get warm, much less HOT! I've seen smoke units melt a plastic loco....

Gidday, here’s a link to a previous discussion on the topic.....
Personally a step too far, so no thanks.
That said, good luck with the giving up, it ain’t easy.
Cheers, the Bear.
