Posting to Forum Tutorial (and 2 questions)
Posted by al07601 on Thursday, July 30, 2015 10:13 PM

Is there any tutorial on posting to MRR Forums? Two questions:

1. Where is the search feature to use keywords to sift through the threads? If I knew how to do that, perhaps I wouldn't be wasting bandwidth with this post.

2. How to include pictures in a post. When I click on "insert image" it asks for Source....I'm used to seeing "Browse" and then navigating to where my pix are. What do I put for "source"?

Sorry for this post, if I could find a tutorial (or could search the threads) maybe I could find the answers.

Thanks...Al

To answer question number 1, not many like or can use the search option, so feel free to ask questions regardless of how simple you may think they are. That is what this forum is for.

Regarding #2 you need to open a free account in www.photobucket,com or a similar service where you can upload your pictures from your computer. After uploading to Photobucket, click on a picture and 3 options for sharing will appear. Click on img and then paste to your post.

Hope this helps and good luck

Al,

On the right side of Your screen where Your screen name is, manage profile/settings, You will see eight topic's, Msg's, Friends, etc. Click on the one that say's help, with a question mark infront of it and it will take You to the community help section with a long list of everything You need to know about how to navigate the Foums, how to post pic's and on and on. Just scroll down untill You see Your question and it will explain and show You with diagrams how to do things on the site, all at Your finger tips.

Take Care! Big Smile

LION runs server of him's own. But then the LION also has him's own URL, you know, like BroadwayLion.com. From there is easy to post a picture.

Time for LION to catch a train!

Al,

Surprised no one has said this yet, but a much easier way to search the forums:

Google/bing/favorite search engine, type in the search bar "site:cs.trains.com" then whatever term you are looking for.

I did "weathering" for the test:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/227357.aspx

 Weathering track, Colors/paint

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/11/t/190172.aspx

 Painting and Weathering bridges

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/p/232638/2603242.aspx

 Creating a weathering effect?

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/11/t/228415.aspx

 weathering box cars, etc...

This is just the top four hits.

Now, for the forums search bar:

Hits, in order, are:

Why we pick the era we model - (not applicable to our search....)

July Coffee pot - Classic toy trains - (not applicable to our search.... It hit on a weather comment.... As in it's raining today.....)

Help with doing a pin wash - this is the third one down, and finally we get one on a weathering technique.

Railroading in the extreme - (not applicable.... It again hit on a weather comment... About tye weather being 38 degrees outside to be precise....)

" " (Another outside temperature comment in the same thread.....)

Chatterbox Summer 2015 - ( Not applicable.... This time on a humidity comment for the weather....)

So, Google search gave 4 of 4 on "weathering", and all different threads.

Kalmbach's was 1 of 6, 5 threads, and 4 of 5 threads did not even fit our search.

So, now for the short answer:

Use Google/bing/etc.... To search here, following the steps I explained above. It works much, much better than the forums search feature.....

EDIT: I see the gremlins don't like the links again.... Attempt two also failed.... Let's go for third times the charm..... NOPE.... Looks like I will be searching for the thread that had linking instructions again, as maybe it's just me....... Ok, Last try.... Not quite right yet, but clickable now at least...... And after adding that they appear just fine..... Wacko gremlins anyway....
